Giants' Alex Cobb: Hip injury ends regular season
Cobb was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a left hip impingement.
Cobb has been dealing with a nagging hip issue throughout the second half and it flared up on him during Tuesday's start against the Diamondbacks. He is done for the remainder of the regular season, although the Giants have not ruled out the possibility that he could return for the playoffs, should they qualify. Kyle Harrison will absorb Cobb's rotation spot.

Giants' Alex Cobb: Exits with hip injury
Cobb was removed from his start Tuesday against the Diamondbacks with an apparent hip injury, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Cobb was grabbing at his left hip at the end of the second inning and was taken out of the game after not being able to get comfortable while warming up ahead of the third frame. The Giants will take a look at Cobb and should provide more details shortly, but fantasy managers should view Cobb as day-to-day for now.

Giants' Alex Cobb: Start pushed back to Tuesday
Cobb had his next start pushed back to Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Cobb was originally slated to start during a doubleheader Saturday against the Rockies, but the team has opted to give him extra rest, as he's been managing a hip issue of late. The team has yet to officially announce a starter to replace Cobb, but Ross Stripling (back) was activated from the injured list Friday and appears to be a logical candidate to take the mound.

Giants' Alex Cobb: Decent in no-decision
Cobb (hip) allowed two unearned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out two over five innings in a no-decision versus the Guardians on Monday.

The right-hander's lone mistake was a two-run home run by Josh Naylor in the third inning. Cobb has endured a shaky second half of the campaign but still has a 3.62 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 130:36 K:BB through 149.1 innings over 27 starts this season. Giants' Alex Cobb: Pushed back to Monday
Cobb (hip) said he expects to return to the rotation Monday against the Guardians, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Cobb has been pitching through a left hip impingement during the second half, but he received a cortisone injection earlier this week that has helped him avoid a stay on the injured list. The veteran right-hander struggled in his last start against the Padres on Sept. 3, but in the game prior to that he worked a complete game and nearly notched a no-hitter against the Reds.

Giants' Alex Cobb: Not on weekend schedule
Cobb (hip) is not listed among the Giants' scheduled starters for their weekend series against the Rockies, Evan Webeck of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Kyle Harrison will start Friday and it will likely be Logan Webb on Saturday, but there is a TBA listed for Sunday's series finale. Cobb threw a career-high 131 pitches in a complete game Aug. 29 against the Reds before yielding four earned runs over just three innings in his latest turn Sept. 3 at San Diego. He told reporters after that rough outing versus the Padres that he's been battling a left hip impingement since mid-June. It's possible Cobb is simply being pushed back a bit -- maybe even to fill the TBA on Sunday -- but this is a must-win series for the Giants and they're already thin on starters.

His next outing is currently projected to be a home matchup with the Rockies.

Giants' Alex Cobb: Goes distance in win
Cobb (7-5) allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out eight over nine innings, earning the complete-game win Tuesday over the Reds.
Cobb allowed just one batter to reach base on an error over the first 8.1 innings before giving up a walk and an RBI double. It was a monumental effort for the right-hander, who needed 131 pitches (83 strikes) for his second complete game of the season. He had starts of varying quality throughout August, allowing 21 runs over 35.1 innings over six appearances. Overall, Cobb has a 3.57 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 125:35 K:BB through 141.1 innings across 25 starts this season. He's tentatively lined up for a road start in San Diego this weekend, but given the Giants' propensity for bullpen games, it wouldn't be surprising to see Cobb pushed back a day or two after such a heavy workload.

Giants' Alex Cobb: Solid in no-decision
Cobb did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits over five innings against the Phillies. He struck out four.
Cobb shut out the Phillies for five innings Wednesday before surrendering back-to-back home runs to Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner to begin the sixth. Overall, the veteran right-hander is 6-5 with a 3.74 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 117:34 K:BB across 24 starts (132.1 innings) this season. Cobb (6-5) took the loss Friday as the Giants fell 4-0 to Atlanta, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out three.
The right-hander did keep the ball in the park, a noteworthy feat after he served up six homers in his prior three starts, but this was still another disappointing result for Cobb. He's winless in seven outings since the All-Star break, going 0-3 with a 5.73 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 27:13 K:BB through 37.2 innings, and he hasn't struck out more than four batters in any of his four trips to the mound in August. Cobb will try to turn things around in his next start, likely to come next week in Philadelphia.

Giants' Alex Cobb: In line to start Tuesday
Giants manager Gabe Kapler said that he expects Cobb to start Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks after the right-hander recently dealt with an illness, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Cobb had been expected to start Monday's series opener, but since he was under the weather, the Giants opted for a bullpen game for the third consecutive day. Barring a setback leading up to Tuesday's 9:45 p.m. ET start time, Cobb looks like he'll be ready to pitch, and the Giants will be hoping to get plenty of innings out of him to help preserve a bullpen that's been overtaxed of late. Cobb has been a steady performer since returning from the 15-day injured list June 30, going 1-1 with a 2.63 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 24:7 K:BB in 27.1 innings over five starts.

Cobb was unfortunate to miss out on a win here, as he turned in a dominant start in response to surrendering five runs his last time out. The 35-year-old right-hander's nine strikeouts were a season high, and he kept runs off the board for the sixth time in 19 starts this season. He's at a 2.97 ERA with a 1.35 WHIP and 100:28 K:BB through 106 innings overall. Cobb is lined up for a challenging home start versus the Diamondbacks next week.

Cobb struggled with his command early, issuing three walks over the first three innings before surrendering a two-run blast to Luke Maile with no outs in the bottom of the third. The right-hander would get tagged for another two runs in the fourth after giving up a leadoff double to Jonathan India to start the inning and would eventually get handed his first loss since May 28. Cobb had allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his last four starts coming in and actually failed to record a strikeout Wednesday for the first time this season.
