  • Wilson Ramos: Signs with Atlantic League team

Ramos agreed to a deal Tuesday with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League. Ramos had been catching for Acereros de Monclova of the Mexican League, but he'll move to New York with designs on breaking back into MLB-affiliated ball. The 35-year-old former two-time All-Star last played in the majors in 2021, when he struggled to a .205/.248/.397 batting line in 44 games (163 plate appearances) between Detroit and Cleveland.

  • Wilson Ramos: Cut loose by Texas

The Rangers released Ramos on Sept. 10. After signing a minor-league deal with Texas in mid-August, Ramos saw action in just three games for Triple-A Round Rock before the organization elected to cut ties with him. Ramos turned 35 years old in August and may be running out of chances to re-emerge as a big-league catcher.

  • Rangers' Wilson Ramos: Links up with Texas

Ramos signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Tuesday and was assigned to Triple-A Round Rock. Ramos' recovery from the torn ACL he sustained last September was likely the main reason the 35-year-old backstop had remained unsigned throughout the winter and the 2022 season until he struck a deal with Texas. Now presumably healthy, Ramos will settle in as organizational depth at the Triple-A level, though he could be in line for a late-season call-up if the Rangers require an additional catcher behind the two options on the active roster, Jonah Heim and Meibrys Viloria.

  • Indians' Wilson Ramos: Undergoes surgery

Ramos underwent surgery Wednesday to repair his torn ACL in his left knee, James Wagner of The New York Times reports. Ramos was diagnosed with a torn ACL and sprained MCL at the end of August and was placed on the 60-day injured list as a result. The 34-year-old had already undergone two surgeries to repair his ACL in the past, and it's not yet clear when he'll be ready to return as he prepares for free agency this winter.

  • Indians' Wilson Ramos: Moves to injured list

Ramos (knee) was placed on the injured list Tuesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Ramos was already declared out for the season after suffering a torn ACL and sprained MCL in Sunday's win over Boston. With both of Cleveland's Triple-A catchers in COVID protocol, and Roberto Perez (shoulder) still on the injured list, the club has called up Gianpaul Gonzalez from High-A Lake County to serve as Austin Hedges' backup.

  • Indians' Wilson Ramos: Out for season

Ramos suffered a torn ACL and sprained MCL in Sunday's win over the Red Sox, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Ramos was filling in as depth behind the dish with Roberto Perez (hand) sidelined, but he'll now be forced to miss the remainder of the season. The 34-year-old appeared in 44 games with Detroit and Cleveland this year and slashed .205/.248/.397 with eight home runs, 20 RBI and 15 runs. He faces a lengthy recovery process and is slated to become a free agent during the offseason.

  • Indians' Wilson Ramos: Not seeing much playing time

Ramos has gone 2-for-21 in his last six games. The catcher has been unable to revitalize his career since joining Cleveland earlier in August. Ramos is slashing a meager .203/.247/.399 with eight home runs, 18 RBI and 15 runs scored through 160 plate appearances overall between Cleveland and Detroit. He'll remain in a backup role with Austin Hedges seeing most of the time behind the dish while Roberto Perez (shoulder) is on the mend.

  • Indians' Wilson Ramos: Smacks homer in win

Ramos went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Monday's 9-3 win over Cincinnati. The catcher has homered in both of his games with Cleveland so far, going 4-for-7 in that limited stretch. Ramos is likely to continue sharing time behind the dish with Austin Hedges while Roberto Perez (shoulder) is on the mend. For the year, Ramos has a .220/.261/.449 slash line with eight homers, 16 RBI, 14 runs scored and five doubles in 134 plate appearances between Detroit and Cleveland.

  • Indians' Wilson Ramos: Homers in Cleveland debut

Ramos went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a pair of singles in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Tigers. After having his contract selected by Cleveland on Aug. 6, the veteran catcher who last played with the Tigers on May 23 shook off the rust with a three-hit night against his former team. His home run came off Detroit closer Gregory Soto in the ninth inning, but wasn't enough to spark a rally. With Roberto Perez on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation, Ramos figures to serve as the backup catcher while Austin Hedges grabs the lion's share of the starts.

  • Indians' Wilson Ramos: Contract selected Friday

Ramos' contract was selected by Cleveland on Friday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Ramos joined Cleveland on a minor-league deal at the beginning of July, and he slashed .317/.328/.517 with three home runs, nine RBI and six stolen bases in 16 games for Triple-A Columbus. He's in line to serve as catching depth after Roberto Perez (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday.

  • Indians' Wilson Ramos: Signs MiLB deal with Cleveland

Ramos signed a minor-league contract with Cleveland on Friday, Daniel Alvarez Montes of El Extrabase reports. Ramos was released by the Tigers on June 20 after he recovered from a back injury. The backstop struggled at the plate prior to landing on the injured list in late May, slashing just .200/.238/.392 across 126 plate appearances. He's still just two years removed from launching 15 homers while hitting .288/.351/.416 with the Mets, so there's certainly potential for him to improve on those early-season woes. Ramos seems likely to report to Triple-A Columbus, where he'll provide Cleveland with catching depth for the time being.

  • Wilson Ramos: Parts ways with Tigers

The Tigers requested unconditional release waivers on Ramos (back) on Sunday. The veteran catcher was designated for assignment by Detroit on Tuesday, and the team won't bother keeping him in the organization. Ramos has been on the injured list nearly a month with a back strain and was playing in rehab games when he was DFA'd. The 33-year-old struggled prior to the injury with a .200/.238/.392 slash line and six homers in 126 plate appearances.

  • Tigers' Wilson Ramos: Designated for assignment

The Tigers designated Ramos for assignment Tuesday. Ramos enjoyed a hot start to the season but hit .171 in his last 26 games before landing on the injured list. Further, the emergence of Eric Haase as an impactful bat complicated Ramos' role in the Tigers' catcher depth chart. It wouldn't be at all surprising to see the catcher claimed by another team in need of depth behind the plate or simply a veteran bat with some pop.

  • Tigers' Wilson Ramos: Plays in rehab game Friday

Ramos (back) served as the designated hitter in a rehab game at extended spring training in Florida on Friday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Ramos was placed on the 10-day injured list May 24 with a lumbar spine strain. He's now rehabbing at the team's Low-A facility in Lakeland, Florida. It's unclear how many rehab games the backstop will need before he returns to Detroit, but the next step will be getting back behind the dish during a game. If all continues to go well, Ramos could be activated within the next week.

  • Tigers' Wilson Ramos: Placed on injured list

Ramos was placed on the 10-day injured list with a lumbar spine strain Monday. Ramos had started each of the last six games and went 2-for-23 with two RBI, a run, a walk and six strikeouts during that time. He missed 10 days with the same injury earlier in the month, but it's not yet clear whether he'll spend more than 10 days on the shelf this time around. Eric Haase is starting behind the plate and batting fifth Monday, and he could serve as the primary catcher while Ramos and Grayson Greiner (hamstring) are sidelined. Left-hander Derek Holland (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Tigers' Wilson Ramos: Serving as designated hitter Sunday

Ramos will serve as the designated hitter and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Royals. Ramos will serve as the DH for the second time in the weekend series, as the Tigers are being cautious with the 33-year-old in his return from the injured list after dealing with a back injury. Expect him to continue splitting time between catcher and DH the rest of the season.

  • Tigers' Wilson Ramos: Returns as designated hitter

Ramos (back) was activated from the injured list Monday and will bat sixth and serve as the designated hitter against the Mariners, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Ramos' lumbar strain wasn't considered a particularly serious one, so it's no surprise to see him back in action after the minimum 10 days. His .227/.265/.464 line prior to the injury isn't exactly designated hitter material, but the Tigers aren't exactly loaded with proven bats. He'd started at the position six times prior to Monday's contest, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he continued to start there frequently going forward.

  • Tigers' Wilson Ramos: Could return Monday

Ramos (back) is feeling much better and could return from the injured list when first eligible Monday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Ramos was placed on the injured list with a lumbar strain last week, though the Tigers said the move was precautionary. He should return to his role as the team's primary catcher once healthy.

  • Tigers' Wilson Ramos: Injury likely minor

Ramos (back) is not expected to require a long stay on the injured list, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. The Tigers placed the veteran catcher the IL as a precautionary measure, with manager A.J. Hinch saying Friday that Ramos is essentially day-to-day and the roster move may not have been necessary if he played a position other than catcher. Though he has struggled considerably of late, Ramos was an offensive catalyst for Detroit in the early weeks of the season and figures to once again be the starting catcher upon returning from the back injury.

  • Tigers' Wilson Ramos: Lands on injured list

Ramos was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a lumbar spine strain. The 33-year-old was removed from Thursday's game against the Red Sox with tightness in his lower back, and he'll be sidelined for at least the next 10 days due to the injury. Ramos will be eligible to be activated May 17, though it's unclear if he's expected to face a longer absence. Grayson Greiner should take over primary duties behind the plate, and Jake Rogers was recalled from Triple-A Toledo.
