Kazmar announced his retirement from professional baseball Nov. 15. The 37-year-old ended his 17-year professional career in storybook fashion in 2021, as the longtime minor-league infielder received a call-up to Atlanta from Triple-A Gwinnett in April and played in three games with the big club. Kazmar's April 17 appearance with Atlanta marked his first big-league action in 13 years, after he previously received a cup of coffee with the Padres in 2008. Though Atlanta outrighted Kazmar off its 40-man roster in May and he remained at Gwinnett for the remainder of the season, he'll still receive a World Series ring for playing with the big club earlier in the campaign.... Kazmar was optioned to the alternate training site Saturday. Kazmar spent the last week on the major-league roster but went hitless in his lone at-bat. Braves' Sean Kazmar: Called up by Atlanta
Kazmar's contract was selected by Atlanta on Saturday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Kazmar hasn't appeared in the big leagues since he played 19 games with the Padres in 2008, but he's played at the Triple-A level in the past 12 seasons. The 36-year-old will join Atlanta's major-league roster as depth in the middle infield since Ozzie Albies (calf) is feeling sore after being hit by a pitch Saturday.
