Outman isn't in the Dodgers' lineup Tuesday versus the Diamondbacks. The lefty-hitting Outman will begin the game on the bench for the second straight day with Arizona starting another southpaw, Jordan Montgomery. Chris Taylor, Andy Pages and Teoscar Hernandez will round out the Dodgers' outfield Tuesday.... See More ... See Less

Dodgers' James Outman: Sits down against lefty
Outman isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Saturday's game against Toronto. The lefty-hitting Outman will take a seat Saturday with southpaw Yusei Kikuchi set to start on the mound for the Jays. Chris Taylor, Andy Pages and Teoscar Hernandez will start across Los Angeles' outfield while Outman watches from the dugout.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Gets Thursday off
Outman is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals. With the Dodgers and Nationals concluding their series with a day game after a night game and with southpaw MacKenzie Gore on the bump for Washington, Outman is one of three lefty-hitting regulars who will get the afternoon off. Outman will be joined on the bench by Gavin Lux and Max Muncy.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Sits versus southpaw
Outman is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game at Washington, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. Outman has started just once against a left-handed pitcher this season, so it's not a surprise he's on the bench Tuesday as southpaw Patrick Corbin pitches for the Nationals. Andy Pages will shift to center field while Enrique Hernandez and Teoscar Hernandez handle the corner outfield spots.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Goes deep again Tuesday
Outman went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's 6-3 victory over Minnesota. Outman was able to get ahold of four-seam fastball from Louie Varland in the top of the fourth inning, launching it 422 feet for a three-run homer. The outfielder has now gone deep in back-to-back contests after failing to garner a long ball prior to Monday. Despite Tuesday's success, Outman has been slow out of the gates overall in 2024, batting .175 with three extra-base hits, seven RBI and two runs scored.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: On bench vs. lefty
Outman is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants. Outman started the previous four games -- including one start against a southpaw -- but the young outfielder will sit Wednesday with lefty Kyle Harrison pitching for San Francisco. Enrique Hernandez will take over in center field and bat seventh.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Enjoying strong spring
Outman is slashing .429/.556/.929 with two home runs, four RBI, four runs, three stolen bases and a 3:6 BB:K through 17 Cactus League plate appearances. Half of Outman's six hits thus far have gone for extra bases, with two leaving the yard. He also leads Los Angeles with three thefts in spring play. Outman enjoyed an excellent spring last year too, which earned him a spot on the Dodgers' Opening Day roster and led to him settling in as the team's primary center fielder. He's expected to retain that role in 2024, and he'll be looking to build upon a strong rookie campaign that included a .248/.353/.437 slash line with 23 homers, 70 RBI and 16 stolen bases. Outman could show further growth by cutting down his 31.9 percent strikeout rate, though his 12.3 percent walk rate last year made the punchouts more palatable. The 26-year-old has his flaws, but his 20/20 potential makes him an intriguing outfield target in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Takes seat for Game 3
Outman is not in the lineup Wednesday for Game 3 of the NLDS against the Diamondbacks. Enrique Hernandez will start in center field and bat seventh as the Dodgers aim to avoid a three-game sweep. Outman went 0-for-5 with a walk and three strikeouts over the first two games of the best-of-five series.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Racks up three more hits
Outman went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a double, a walk and two total runs against Colorado in an 8-2 win Wednesday. Following an 0-for-4 performance in Game 1 of a doubleheader Tuesday, Outman was batting just .171 with no multi-hit performances through 22 games in September. He's turned things around considerably since then, tallying seven hits over his past 10 at-bats to lift his season batting average back up to .252. The rookie outfielder has added 23 homers, 69 RBI, 85 runs and 15 stolen bases in a fine rookie campaign, nailing down a near-everyday role in center field in the process.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Clubs 22nd homer
Outman went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Giants. Outman is still searching for a multi-hit game in September, having gone 12-for-66 (.181) this month. He's made up for the slump a bit with five homers and nine RBI over his last 21 contests, and he's still seeing most of the playing time in center field. Outman is up to 22 long balls, 68 RBI, 81 runs scored, 15 stolen bases and a .244/.351/.434 slash line through 145 games this year.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Reaches 20-homer mark
Outman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-3 win over the Mariners. Outman padded the Dodgers' lead in the ninth inning with a solo shot off Trent Thornton. While Outman has gone just 7-for-39 (.179) in September, he's hit three homers this month. He's now at 20 long balls this season while adding 65 RBI, 77 runs scored, 15 stolen bases, 14 doubles, three triples and a .248/.356/.433 slash line over 137 contests in his first full campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Not in lineup Thursday
Outman is absent from the lineup Thursday at Miami. This appears to be a routine day off for Outman, who hit a two-run homer during the ninth inning of the Dodgers' loss to the Marlins on Wednesday. Enrique Hernandez will play center field and bat seventh in Thursday's series finale.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Sitting against lefty
Outman is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Brewers. It'll be a righty-heavy attack for the Dodgers as they take on left-hander Wade Miley. Chris Taylor, Enrique Hernandez and Mookie Betts are starting across the outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Clubs homer in win
Outman went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Rockies. Outman's second-inning blast gave the Dodgers the lead for good in this contest. The outfielder had gone seven games without an RBI entering Saturday. He's hitting .344 (11-for-32) in August, a stretch that's raised his slash line for the year to .257/.362/.439 over 109 games. Outman has added 14 homers, 14 stolen bases, 51 RBI and 60 runs scored while seeing the bulk of the playing time in center field.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Productive in Friday's win
Outman went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 10-5 win over the Padres. Outman snapped an 11-game homer drought Friday, though he was still solid with six RBI, two steals and two doubles while batting .300 in that span. The outfielder remains in a strong-side platoon role, though he's potentially earned a bit more than that after starting against two of the three southpaws the Dodgers faced in their series versus Oakland. He's at a .252/.352/.435 slash line with 13 homers, 13 steals, 49 RBI and 55 runs scored over 369 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Reaches base four times
Outman went 2-for-4 with two walks, a stolen base and a run in Tuesday's 10-3 win over the Orioles. Outman's National League Rookie of the Year campaign has lost some steam while his power has been largely gone for the past two and a half months. Since the beginning of May, Outman has produced just 11 extra-base hits (four home runs, seven doubles) in 59 games. Though his struggles for much of May and June looked as though they could result in a demotion to Triple-A Oklahoma City, Outman has at least shown improved contact hitting and on-base skills thus far in July. He's hitting .316 and owns a .435 OBP in 12 games this month while striking out at a manageable 26.1 percent clip, more than seven points below his season-long rate (33.6 percent).... See More ... Dodgers' James Outman: Clubs pair of homers
Outman went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Tuesday's 9-7 loss to the Pirates. Outman went deep off Luis Ortiz in the second and fourth innings, ending the young slugger's 34-game homer drought. Outman has posted six multi-hit efforts over his last 15 games, batting .268 (15-for-56) in that span. The outfielder is up to 11 long balls, 40 RBI, 41 runs scored and eight stolen bases while slashing .236/.317/.429 over 287 plate appearances this season. He continues to see the majority of the playing time in center field.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Takes seat for series opener
Outman isn't starting Monday's game against the Pirates. Outman is in the midst of a 2-for-12 stretch at the dish over his last three contests and will get the night off to hit the reset button. Jason Heyward gets the call in center field and is set to bat seventh in Outman's absence.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Sitting out second straight game
Outman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds. After taking a seat against right-hander Andrew Abbott in Tuesday's series opener, the lefty-hitting Outman will now remain on the bench versus a lefty (Brandon Williamson) on Wednesday. The Dodgers may not yet be ready to pull the plug on Outman as their primary center fielder, but it's clear that his leash has gotten considerably shorter while he's slashed a woeful .161/.257/.276 with a 37.6 percent strikeout rate since the beginning of May.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' James Outman: Gets Saturday off
Outman will be on the bench Saturday against the Cardinals, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. Outman is having an excellent rookie season overall, hitting .263/.353/.533 with nine homers and five steals in 46 games. That comes with a 34.1 percent strikeout rate on the year and a 52.4 percent mark across his last six contests, however, so there's reason to worry about how well he'll be able to sustain his hot start. Jason Heyward will take over in center field Saturday.... See More ... See Less
