McCarty was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
The Guardians lost a pair of starters to the injured list this week in Zach Plesac (hand) and Aaron Civale (forearm), so the southpaw will provide a long relief option in place of Cody Morris, who is getting elevated to the rotation. McCarty could potentially come in to piggyback either Morris on Friday or Xzavion Curry, who is likely starting Saturday. McCarty has a 6.04 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 22.1 innings across six MLB appearances.
