  • Sharks' William Eklund: Buries power-play goal

Eklund scored a power-play goal on two shots, added four PIM and went minus-2 in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Ducks. Eklund entered Thursday with no points in his last four games and no goals in his last 10 outings. He snapped both slumps with a tally in the second period, briefly tying the game at 3-3. The 21-year-old winger has been solid in a top-six role with 26 points and 93 shots on net, but he also carries a minus-31 rating and 26 PIM through 57 appearances this season. Eklund continues to fill in at center while the Sharks are thin at the position due to injuries.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Picks up assist in win

Eklund recorded an assist and two shots on goal in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Flames. Eklund has six helpers over his last five games, but he's gone six contests without a goal. With Tomas Hertl (knee) and Logan Couture (groin) both out, Eklund will have a chance to gain further experience as a center. The 21-year-old is up to eight goals, 25 points, 82 shots on net, 46 blocked shots and a minus-23 rating through 52 appearances. He's a player to hold in dynasty formats, though his offense is on the fringe of being valuable in redraft leagues.

Overall, he's up to 23 points, 78 shots on net, 43 blocked shots, 24 PIM and a minus-22 rating through 50 appearances. • Sharks' William Eklund: Productive as center in win

Eklund notched a pair of assists, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Kraken. Eklund took a turn at center with Tomas Hertl (lower body) not available. The early returns are encouraging -- while Eklund won just four of nine faceoffs, he played a strong 200-foot game and was able to make positive contributions on offense and defense. The 21-year-old has five points over his last four games, and he's up to eight goals, 14 assists, 78 shots on net, 41 blocked shots and a minus-20 rating through 49 contests overall.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Two apples in loss

Eklund put up two assists in a 5-2 loss to the Sabres on Saturday. It was his first multi-point game since Dec. 5. The talented 21-year-old has 21 points, including 13 assists, in 48 games this season. Eklund sees the ice well, and his game is quietly developing, even on the toothless teal. His fantasy value may not take a leap without help, but it will if the Sharks can surround him with a bit more bite offensively.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Records assist Thursday

Eklund posted an assist in Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Jets. Eklund reached the 10-assist mark when he set up an Alexander Barabanov tally in the second period. The helper snapped a five-game point drought for Eklund. Those swings of hot and cold play on offense are likely to continue as the 21-year-old winger adapts to his top-line role in a weak offense. For the season, he's produced 17 points, 60 shots on net, 35 blocked shots and a minus-19 rating through 38 appearances.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Should be good for camp

Eklund (shoulder) participated in captain's skate activities Wednesday and should be ready for training camp when it opens Sept. 21, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Eklund underwent shoulder surgery in March, and the expectation was always that he'd be good to go for camp. The 20-year-old, selected seventh overall in 2021, had 41 points in 54 AHL games and three points over eight contests with the Sharks last season. Now two years separated from his draft year, Eklund should be ready to contend for at least a middle-six job with the Sharks, and he should also see some power-play time this year.

Eklund was sent down after the Sharks' two NHL Global Series games in Prague, but he'll rejoin the active roster less than a week later. The 20-year-old could be in line to immediately join the lineup if Alexander Barabanov (lower body) and Timo Meier (upper body) both remain out for Friday's game versus the Hurricanes and/or Saturday's game against the Blackhawks.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Heading back to Sweden

Eklund will be reassigned to Djurgarden of the SHL, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports. Eklund played pretty well during his nine-game audition with the Sharks, picking up four helpers while averaging 14:20 of ice time per contest over that span, but San Jose has opted to sent the 19-year-old winger back to his native Sweden for the remainder of the season to avoid burning a year off his entry-level contract. Although Eklund's likely seen his last NHL action in 2021-22, he'll almost certainly be ready to take on a prominent full-time role with the Sharks next campaign.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Sends assist Tuesday

Eklund notched an assist in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Sabres. Eklund helped out on a Jonathan Dahlen goal in the first period -- that scoring play is likely a welcome sight for Sharks fans. Through eight contests, Eklund has racked up four assists, seven shots on net and a minus-2 rating. The 19-year-old isn't dominating, but he's shown he belongs at the NHL level in a middle-six role.

  • Sharks' William Eklund: Nabs helper in debut

Eklund produced a power-play assist, two PIM and a minus-2 rating in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Jets. Eklund helped out on Tomas Hertl's go-ahead goal in the third period. The 19-year-old Eklund didn't have to wait long for his first NHL point, although his debut didn't come without some bumps along the way. The uber-talented winger begins the year in a second-line role, and as long as he can be an effective playmaker, it seems unlikely he'll drop down the lineup often.
