  • Capitals' Tom Wilson: First career 30-goal season

Wilson scored a goal Tuesday in a 4-1 win over Detroit. It was Wilson's 30th goal and the first time he's hit that mark. He's the third player in NHL history to have played at least 800 regular-season games before recording his first 30-goal season. Wilson is on an absolute tear right now -- he has 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) in his past 17 games. At his current pace, he could hit the 65-point mark and perhaps even more. The trade windows in fantasy have all closed, but get ready to move Wilson early in the offseason as he basks in this season. We'd like to say he can easily replicate this effort, but the NHL is an unforgiving place for guys who hit their peak at his age.

Wilson had two assists in the contest prior to the incident. It's unclear if he's at risk of missing time due to the injury, with head coach Spencer Carbery saying the winger "needed repairs." Wilson should be considered day-to-day ahead of Thursday's game versus the Kings. With the pair of helpers, Wilson established a career high in points with 54 through 64 appearances this season, including nine points during his active five-game streak.

Wilson scored a power-play goal and added an even-strength assist while chipping in three shots on net, four hits, five PIM, a blocked shot and a plus-2 rating in Monday's 5-4 shootout win over the Senators. It was a typically abrasive performance from Wilson, who dropped the gloves with Brady Tkachuk late in the first period, potted his 27th goal of the season early in the second and then set up Martin Fehervary for the Caps' final tally of regulation midway through the third. Wilson has already set a new career high in goals, and with 47 points through 60 appearances, he's just six points away from establishing a new personal best in that category as well.

Wilson was limited to 12:17 of ice time, racking up a goal, four hits and a plus-3 rating. It's possible this is just a precautionary move, but he'll likely be a game-time decision for Sunday's game versus the Oilers. If he can't play, Jakub Vrana is set to enter the lineup unless the Capitals opt to dress seven defensemen. Wilson has 25 goals and 43 points through 56 appearances this season.
