Top Henry To'oTo'o News

  • Texans' Henry To'oTo'o: Contributes in rookie season

To'oTo'o recorded 61 tackles, two passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery over 15 regular-season games in 2023.

To'oTo'o, a fifth-round draft pick out of Alabama, started from Week 2 to Week 7 and played in both of Houston's playoff games during his rookie season. The Texans lost two linebackers to free agency -- Blake Cashman and Denzel Perryman -- which leaves To'oTo'o as a projected starter for 2024.

  • Texans' Henry To'oTo'o: Ready for Sunday

To'oTo'o (concussion) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Jaguars.

The rookie linebacker out of Alabama missed the Texans' previous two games with a concussion, but he was able to log a full week of practice and is now in line to play in Sunday's divisional matchup. To'oTo'o has earned more playing time as the season has progressed, appearing in eight games and recording 53 total tackles, including one tackle for loss and one forced fumble.

  • Texans' Henry To'oTo'o: Gets in full practice Wednesday

To'oTo'o (concussion) was a full participant at practice Wednesday.

There could still be outstanding steps for To'oTo'o to clear league concussion protocol, but his status Wednesday bodes well for his chances to suit up in Week 12. He'll get two more chances to shed his injury designation before Sunday's game versus the Jaguars.

  • Texans' Henry To'oTo'o: Won't play Sunday

To'oto'o (concussion) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

The rookie linebacker out of Alabama is set to miss his second consecutive game after sustaining a concussion during the Texans' Week 9 win over the Buccaneers. Christian Harris is expected to see increased snaps for Houston's defense this Sunday in To'oto'o's stead.

  • Texans' Henry To'oTo'o: Still sidelined by concussion

To'oTo'o (concussion) did not participate at practice Wednesday.

Despite sitting out of Sunday's win at Cincinnati, To'oTo'o is still recovering from his concussion to begin the Texans' new week of practice. He'll probably need to practice in some capacity Thursday or Friday to give himself a chance to play in Week 11.

  • Texans' Henry To'oTo'o: Won't play at Cincinnati

To'oTo'o (concussion) is listed as out for Sunday's game at the Bengals, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.

To'oTo'o practiced Wednesday, but he sat out Thursday and Friday, so it comes as no surprise that he won't suit up in Week 10. In his absence, 2022 third-rounder Christian Harris is in line to start at linebacker Sunday.

  • Texans' Henry To'oTo'o: Working back from concussion

To'oTo'o (concussion) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday.

To'oTo'o saw a season-low 12 defensive snaps in Sunday's win versus Tampa Bay, and that he might have sustained a concussion would certainly be a reasonable explanation for why. Given that most players who have sustained a concussion in 2023 have gone on to sit out at least one game, it would be somewhat surprising to see To'oTo'o play Sunday at the Bengals.

  • Texans' Henry To'oTo'o: Steep decline in snaps

To'oTo'o recorded five tackles and played 13 snaps (20 percent) on defense in Sunday's 39-37 win over the Buccaneers in Week 9.

To'oTo'o was a near full-time player prior to Houston's bye week (Week 7) but has seen his snap count drop significantly in the two games since. He played 31 snaps (three tackles) in last week's loss to Carolina before bottoming out for a season low against Tampa Bay. His defense in coverage has been an issue early on, and it looks like it's costing To'oTo'o playing time. Per Jon Marci of Pro Football Focus, he played just two snaps in the second half and was victimized on the Panthers' go-ahead touchdown late before C.J. Stroud rallied the Texans to a win. The rookie fifth-round draft pick out of Alabama remains Houston's tackle leader at 53, but he has just eight over the last two games.

  • Texans' Henry To'oTo'o: Pass coverage needs work

To'oTo'o has allowed 26 receptions through five weeks, tied for most in the league among linebackers, per Pro Football Focus.

To'oTo'o has made a mark as a tackler, recording double-digit stops twice in the last three weeks, but that could be because he's the most targeted defender on the team (30) while allowing an 86.7 reception percentage. "We ask guys to do a lot in coverage," Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans told Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle. "It takes time, and Henry has done a great job with the things we've asked him to do. He's still growing, still learning, but we're pleased with where he is, and he'll continue to progress and get better." In the Week 5 loss to the Falcons, quarterback Desmond Ritter picked on him 11 times (nine catches, 125 yards). Coaches have placed a lot of faith in To'oTo'o, a 2023 fifth-round draft pick out of Alabama, whose 268 snaps rank second on the team behind cornerback Steven Nelson. He's also started four of five games while Blake Cashman and Denzel Perryman were sidelined by injuries. Perryman, who returned to action as a backup Week 5, could move into a starting role Week 6 against the Saints, which could minimize To'oTo'o's snap count.

  • Texans' Henry To'oTo'o: Leading tackler in loss

To'oTo'o recorded 12 total tackles (six solo) during Houston's 21-19 loss to Atlanta this Sunday.

To'oTo'o's role continues to increase, as he out-tackled the Texans' starting middle linebacker Denzel Perryman 12 to four and out-snapped him 75 to 35 this week, although Perryman had returned from a two-week absence and was wearing a hand cast. The rookie linebacker out of Alabama has impressed through his first five games, recording 39 total tackles, which makes him the team's leading tackler on the year. To'oTo'o's snap share increased from 95 to 97 percent this past Sunday, so expect the 22-year-old to continue making big plays for Houston's defense.
