Bengals' Chase Brown: Officially inactive Saturday
Brown (ankle) is inactive for Saturday's game at Pittsburgh.
Brown suffered a right ankle sprain near the end of regulation of last Saturday's overtime win versus the Broncos. Despite the running back not practicing during Week 18 prep, there was some hope that he'd be available this Saturday, as offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher noted to Ben Baby of ESPN.com on Monday. Officially listed as questionable, Brown's availability was subject to a game-day decision, per Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer via coach Zac Taylor. During his pregame warmup, Brown's right ankle was heavily taped, per Bridget Condon of NFL Network, but his attempts to cut on the ankle seemingly didn't go well, according to Condon. With his lack of availability now confirmed for Saturday's contest, Brown will hand off the Bengals backfield to Khalil Herbert, who will be backed up by Trayveon Williams and Kendall Milton.

Brown emerged from last Saturday's overtime victory against the Broncos with a sprained right ankle, which didn't allow him to practice during Week 18 prep. Still, the Bengals gave him a chance to suit up this weekend by listing him as questionable on their final injury report Thursday. In the end, Brown went through a pregame workout that may not have gone well when he attempted to cut, per Bridget Condon of NFL Network. Cincinnati will confirm Brown's status once the team posts its inactive list about 90 minutes before an 8:00 p.m. ET kickoff, but it appears as if Khalil Herbert will be the Bengals' lead running back Saturday.

Brown (ankle) is listed as questionable for Saturday's game against the Steelers.
After suffering what's believed to be a mild right high-ankle sprain in last Saturday's 30-24 overtime win over the Broncos, Brown was listed as a non-participant for each of the Bengals' three practices in Week 18. Despite the lack of on-field activity this week, the Bengals aren't closing the door on him being available in a critical game in Saturday, as Cincinnati will need a win plus Broncos and Dolphins losses Sunday to punch their ticket to the postseason. Per Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer, head coach Zac Taylor suggested earlier Thursday that Brown is shaping up as a game-day decision for Saturday, with official word on the running back's status set to arrive when the Bengals release their inactive list 90 minutes prior to the team's 8 p.m. ET kickoff. If Brown can't play Saturday or is available only in a limited capacity, Khalil Herbert would likely be in store for a big role out of the backfield.

Brown hasn't logged any practice activity this week, and he appears to be trending toward being listed as a non-participant on Thursday's injury report. Once practice concludes, the Bengals will reveal whether Brown carries a designation into Saturday's game against the Steelers. Pitcher added that he believes that Brown -- who suffered a right high-ankle sprain in this past Saturday's 30-24 overtime win over the Broncos -- is "going to work really hard to be out there for us." The 8-8 Bengals head into Week 18 still in contention for a playoff spot, so having Brown available would be a major boost to the team's offense in a must-win scenario. If, however, Brown is limited or out this weekend, Khalil Herbert would be in line for added opportunities out of the backfield.
