Saints' Trevor Penning: Expected to be back for camp
The Saints expect Penning (foot) to be ready for training camp, Katherine Terrell of ESPN reports.

Saints' Trevor Penning: Cleared to return from IR
The Saints reinstated Penning (toe) from injured reserve Saturday.
The rookie offensive tackle looks set to make his NFL regular-season debut Sunday against the 49ers after he had missed the Saints' first 11 games while recovering from surgery to address a turf toe injury he sustained in New Orleans' Aug. 26 preseason finale. Before suffering the injury, Penning appeared poised to serve as the Saints' starting left tackle, but it's not clear if he'll immediately unseat James Hurst for those duties this weekend.

Saints' Trevor Penning: Designated to return
The Saints designated Penning (toe) to return from injured reserve Thursday.
Penning's recovery from toe surgery seems to be right on track, as he was expected to return by November at the earliest after being placed on IR in early September. The 6-foot-7 offensive tackle was expected to quickly step into a big role this season as one of the Saints' two first-round selections in the 2022 NFL Draft. Penning will now have a 21-day window to practice before having to be activated to the 53-man roster, or else he'll revert to IR for the remainder of the season.

Saints' Trevor Penning: Could return in November
Penning (toe) has a chance to return to practice by early November, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
After being placed on injured reserve Thursday, there was some concern that Penning would miss the entirety of the 2022 campaign, but the Saints received good news Monday. The offensive lineman could return in November, providing the team an extra boost down the stretch. It's hard to predict this far in advance, but New Orleans has to be satisfied that 2022 isn't expected to be a complete loss for their first-rounder.

Saints' Trevor Penning: Heads to IR
The Saints placed Penning (toe) on injured reserve Thursday, Luke Johnson of Nola.com reports.
The 2022 first-round pick suffered a significant turf toe injury in the first quarter of the Saints' preseason finale, so his move to IR isn't a surprise. It's unclear how much time the No. 19 overall pick will miss, but he'll be sidelined for at least the first four games of the regular season. Veteran James Hurst will operate as the starting left tackle to begin the season, but Penning, who earned praise from the coaching staff for his development throughout training camp, will likely push him for that job when he is cleared for game action.
