Houston's decision to move on from Ammendola signals that the team fully anticipates top kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadriceps) will make his return from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game against the Titans. Ammendola reverted to the practice squad following the Texans' Week 14 loss to the Jets, after he had handled kicking duties in each of the past five contests. Texans' Matt Ammendola: Fails on lone attempt
Ammendola missed his lone extra-point kick in Sunday's 30-6 loss to the Jets.
Houston's offense was hampered by injuries to key weapons, which resulted in its fewest points scored and yards gained this season. Nico Collins (calf) left early in the first quarter, joining Tank Dell (lower leg) and Dalton Schultz (hamstring). Later, quarterback C.J. Stroud (concussion) was removed from the contest. That all resulted in zero field-goal attempts for Ammendola, who had nine FGA and 10 XPA in his first four weeks as a replacement for Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadriceps). The failed extra-point kick was his first and fourth missed kick overall in the last four games.

Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadricep) is eligible to return from injured reserve this week after missing the Texans' last four contests, but the kicker doesn't look as though he's made enough progress in his recovery yet to be ready to play Sunday. As a result, the 26-year-old Ammendola appears set for a fifth straight turn as Houston's kicker. In his first four games with the team, Ammendola has knocked down all 10 of his point-after tries and six of nine field-goal attempts, with two of those misses coming from beyond 50 yards.

The move, which occurred after Ammendola missed both of his field-goal tries and all three of his point-after attempts in Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Jaguars, opens room on the roster for defensive end Derek Barnett, whom the Texans claimed off waivers Monday. However, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston notes that Ammendola is expected to join Houston's practice squad, assuming he clears waivers. Ammendola missed both of his field-goal attempts and made three of three extra-point kicks in Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Jaguars in Week 12.
Two missed field goals in a one-score game loom large, although each were from deep. Ammendola was wide right from the 50 near the end of the first half, then hit the crossbar on an attempt to the tie the game from 58 yards out with 29 seconds left. Ammendola, who is filling in for Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadriceps), has missed his last three FGA.

Ammendola missed his lone field-goal attempt and converted all three extra-point kicks in Sunday's 21-16 win over the Cardinals in Week 11.
Ammendola was wide left from 48 yards out in the third quarter, his first miss in four tries since becoming the fill-in placekicker for Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadriceps). There were other potential scoring opportunities, but quarterback C.J. Stroud threw two red-zone interceptions in the second half. The Texans are tied for fourth in the NFL with 24 field-goal attempts, so there's potential fantasy value to starting Ammendola. The kicking duties figure to remain his at through Week 13, at minimum.

As expected, Ammendola will operate as Houston's kicker in Week 11 after signing with the team's active roster Saturday.
