Technically, Umenyiora apologized to women he offended, not McCoy. (US PRESSWIRE)

On Sunday, Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora sent Eagles running back LeSean McCoy this celebratory tweet:

McCoy and Umenyiora have a history dating back to last offseason when the former mocked the latter, which prompted the latter to lash out by calling the former "a girl."

Worth mentioning: McCoy and Umenyiora are grown men calling each other names on Twitter. Old-school types like Lawrence Taylor must surely be unimpressed. (Unless you can put tweets up for auction. In which case, LT's in.) And maybe that realization explains why Umenyiora has since backed off his remarks.

After reading an espnW column by Sarah Spain, who wrote about the pervasive practice, especially in sports, of using femininity as an insult, the Giants' defensive lineman apologized.

He followed with this:

As PFT's Mike Florio points out, technically, Umenyiora still didn't apologize to McCoy. We're guessing McCoy didn't notice given that shiny new five-year, $45 million contract he just signed.
