The Giants added TE Travis Beckum back to the 53-man roster and released OG Mitch Petrus, CBSsports.com has confirmed with a source who has knowledge of the transaction. ESPN.com originally reported the move.

Beckum began the year on PUP after tearing his ACL in Super Bowl XLVI, but began practicing with the team in October in preparation for his return. Beckum's return coincides with TE Bear Pascoe's ankle injury, which has left him questionable for Sunday's game against the Steelers.

Pascoe and Beckum are much different tight ends. Pascoe weighs over 280 pounds and is considered a better blocker, while Beckum -- who plays around 240 pounds -- has better speed and is more of a deep threat in the passing game.

Beckum has maintained for several weeks that his knee feels better, and it's just a matter of regaining confidence in the joint. He previously told CBSSports.com that even if he has lost a little speed because of the injury, his ability to run precise routes can compensate for that.

The Giants also have rookie TE Adrien Robinson to back up starter Martellus Bennett, but Robinson has not seen any action thus far.

Petrus already had been released by the team once this season, but was re-signed before the first game of the year.
