The Philadelphia Eagles pared their roster to the league-mandated 75 players on Monday by moving two veteran starters to non-football related lists, putting another player on injured reserve and releasing another.
Tackle Jason Peters was placed on the non-football injury list because of a torn Achilles tendon, while defensive tackle Mike Patterson was placed on the non-football illness list as he recovers from offseason brain surgery.
Both Peters and Patterson are eligible to return to practice anytime between Weeks 6 and 9. It’s unlikely Peters will play this season, but Patterson said he will be tested more in the next couple of weeks and intends to play sometime in 2012.
Also, veteran offensive lineman Mike Gibson was put on injured reserve with a strained hip-flexor and wide receiver Jamel Hamler was released. Hamler, a first-year player from Fresno State, spent time on the Eagles’ practice squad last season and was re-signed in January.
