Buccaneers guard Davin Joseph, coming off the second Pro Bowl berth of his career, had to be carted off the field late in the second quarter of Friday’s preseason game against the Patriots, and according to the St. Petersburg Times, the fear is that he’ll be lost for the season.

The injury occurred when tackle Donald Penn, beaten on the play, accidently pushed a Patriots pass-rusher into Joseph’s knee.

As the Times writes, “The injury would be a tremendous blow to the Bucs, who have built around their offensive line as the most experienced unit on their team. Joseph and left guard Carl Nicks have been hailed by many as the best pair of guards in the league.”

According to Pro Football Focus, Joseph ranked as the 48th-best guard in the league last season.
