There's peaking at the right time and there's the opposite.

San Francisco's 42-13 loss to Seattle on Sunday isn't reason to panic, but it certainly removes any Super Bowl-favorite tag that have been attached to the team.

The loss is one thing. The losses were another. WR Mario Manningham doesn't figure to be back anytime soon after leaving with what appeared like a gruesome knee injury. TE Vernon Davis left with a concussion and the team already was without All-Pro DL Justin Smith.

What a difference six quarters can make.

Offense: D

The 49ers were 3 for 11 on third down, scored on just one of four trips to the red zone and didn't find the end zone until the game's outcome had long been determined. Frank Gore had six carries. Six. It was a product of the team's need to throw the ball after getting down big, but the game started with a San Francisco three-and-out that consisted of three incomplete passes. Gore wasn't apart of the game plan from the start and when that's the case, the 49ers tend to struggle. Previous game's grade: A

Defense: F

Without DE Justin Smith , the defense doesn't look like, well, the 49ers' defense. In the four quarters that spanned the second half of the Patriots game last week and the first half against Seattle, San Francisco allowed 59 points. The same team, with Smith, gave up less than that in seven total games. Is it that simple? Probably not, but when the "Cowboy" isn't "ropin' and riding" the void is glaring. Previous game's grade: A-

Special teams: C-

K David Akers' had a short field goal blocked and returned 90 yards for a touchdown on a play that pretty much summed up the night for San Francisco. LaMichael James looked good on kickoff returns, but fumbled one that had to be scooped up by TE Delanie Walker. Previous game's grade: B+

Coaching: D

Jim Harbaugh made no excuses for the debacle in Seattle. He said they didn't play well enough or coach well enough and really -- and it was that simple. San Francisco wasn't prepared like it had been in recent weeks and the win-win-loss theme of the season continued. It was the most lopsided loss of the Harbaugh era. Previous game's grade: A
