  • Nets' Nic Claxton: Muted production continues

Claxton ended with nine points (3-7 FG, 3-4 FT), eight rebounds, three assists and one block over 23 minutes during Wednesday's 142-118 loss to the Knicks. Since returning from a hamstring injury to a team without Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, Claxton has averaged just 7.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.1 blocks, 2.0 assists and 1.3 steals. While his defensive production remains impressive, his recent performances are a far cry from the 17.2 points, 11.6 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2.4 assists he averaged from Jan. 15 through Feb. 7. Without the increased defensive attention placed on Irving and Durant, Claxton's life has become much more difficult.

  • Nets' Nic Claxton: Leads team in rebounds

Claxton logged four points (2-4 FG), nine rebounds and two blocks across 25 minutes during Wednesday's 116-105 win over the Heat. He's averaged 7.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 25.7 minutes per game over his three appearances following the trade deadline, down from his season averages of 12.8 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in 29.5 minutes per game. However, he missed last Thursday's game against the Bulls with a hamstring issue, so it's possible he's had some limitations recently. The 23-year-old will have over a week to rest during the All-Star break before the Nets face Chicago on Feb. 24.

The 16 boards were a new career high for Claxton, who supplemented the rebounds with his usual strong contribution in the blocks category. Poor free-throw shooting has dragged down Claxton's fantasy value to some degree, but managers drafted him with the knowledge that he would be a liability in that category. With averages of 13.1 points (on 73.2 percent shooting from the field), 9.1 rebounds, 2.6 blocks, 1.7 assists and 0.7 steals for the season, Claxton has unquestionably outproduced his average draft position heading into the campaign.

The 24 points and 15 rebounds were new career highs for Claxton, whose stellar production in the counting categories made it easy for fantasy managers to deal with his horrid free-throw shooting on high volume. Managers who drafted Claxton with the understanding that he would be toxic in the free-throw percentage category couldn't be more pleased with the young center's output of late. He's recorded at least three blocks in an astounding 12 straight games and is averaging 14.9 points and 9.3 rebounds while shooting 72.2 percent from the field during that stretch.

Claxton finished with 15 points (7-11 FG, 1-1 FT), 11 rebounds, four assists, four blocks and one steal in 28 minutes during Tuesday's 106-98 loss to the Spurs. Claxton saw a slight bump in usage while Brooklyn was without both Kyrie Irving (calf) and Kevin Durant (knee), which played a factor in him collecting four assists on the night after recording just one across the Nets' previous three contests. As per usual, however, the main takeaway from Claxton's line was his continued efficiency and shot blocking. He's recorded no fewer than three blocks in any of his last nine outings and is shooting 70.3 percent from the field during that stretch.
