Nets' Dru Smith: Steps in as backup point guard
Smith supplied five points (2-3 FG, 1-1 3Pt), two rebounds and two steals over 12 minutes in Tuesday's 116-112 loss to the Suns. With trades and injuries having tested the Nets' depth of late, Smith has assumed backup point guard duties for the NBA team the past two games after he had played exclusively in the G League since inking a two-way deal with Brooklyn on Jan. 13. Though Smith averaged a respectable 3.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in 12.5 minutes behind back-to-back losses to the Clippers and Suns, he'll presumably be headed out of the NBA rotation and back to the Long Island Nets if the newly acquired Spencer Dinwiddie is available to pay Thursday against the Bulls.... Nets' Dru Smith: Will be present Sunday
Smith will be on Brooklyn's bench during Sunday's matchup against Oklahoma City, Alec Sturm of NetsDaily.com reports. Smith, who recently signed a two-way deal with Brooklyn, will presumably be available for the first time in a Nets uniform. He made five appearances with the Heat during that stretch, posting 2.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 13.4 minutes per game. Smith figures to report to the Long Island Nets after signing the deal, but he could get an NBA look soon, as Brooklyn continues to target depth contributors with Kevin Durant (knee) sidelined.... Smith was incredible Wednesday, posting team highs in assists and rebounds while approaching a triple-double. He should continue to be a primary contributor for the Skyforce and could receive some NBA looks if he maintains this form.... See More ... See Less -

Heat's Dru Smith: Drops out of starting five
Smith will not start Saturday's game versus the Spurs. Smith received a spot start Thursday while Kyle Lowry got a rest, but he'll return to a bench role Saturday with Lowry back in the mix. Smith hasn't seen a ton of action when the regulars are available, so he shouldn't be counted on for a major impact against the Spurs, even with Gabe Vincent (knee) out.... See More ... See Less -
Heat's Dru Smith: Gets first career start Thursday
Smith will start Thursday against the Clippers. Smith is coming off one of his best G League performances of the season, during which the guard recorded 26 points, six assists, and four rebounds. The guard will receive his first ever start for the Heat in place of Max Strus (shoulder). So far with Miami, Smith has played in only four games, and he's averaging 11.5 minutes, 2.3 points and 2.0 rebounds.... See More ... See Less -
Heat's Dru Smith: Drops 26 points
Smith recorded 26 points (10-13 FG, 5-6 3Pt, 1-1 FT), six assists, four rebounds and one steal in 29 minutes during Sunday's 142-96 win over the Herd. Smith's workload was limited due to the blowout, but he overcame the limitations with incredible efficiency from inside and out. Smith's 26-point outburst was just short of his season-high 28 points, but his 76.9 percent shooting was his best mark yet.... See More ... See Less -
Heat's Dru Smith: Sent to G League
Smith will join the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the G League, Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press reports. Smith will serve a brief stint with the team before returning for the Heat's matchup with Memphis on Monday. While he's unlikely to have much of a scoring impact, he's packed the stat sheet in both matchups, registering at least one rebound, assist, steal and block. Miami was once again without Jimmy Butler (knee) on Sunday, while Gabe Vincent (knee) did not play despite being listed as available prior to tip-off.... See More ... See Less -
