Top Robert Covington News

  • 76ers' Robert Covington: Busy in loss to Celtics

Covington posted 18 points (4-9 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 7-7 FT), five rebounds, one assist, one block and five steals across 30 minutes off the bench during Friday's 125-119 loss to Boston.

While Paul Reed moved into the starting five for the 76ers in place of Joel Embiid (illness), Covington also saw an increased role as he played at least 30 minutes for only the third time in a Sixers jersey. The veteran forward responded with season highs in points and steals. Covington is still capable of making an impact when he gets enough court time, but his production remains erratic on a game-to-game basis -- he's drained multiple threes in three of the last four games but failed to score a point in the fourth contest.

  • 76ers' Robert Covington: Productive on scoreboard

Covington had 12 points (4-5 FG, 4-4 3Pt), seven rebounds, one assist and one block across 30 minutes during Wednesday's 124-114 loss to the Pelicans.

Covington was held scoreless in Monday's blowout win over the Lakers, but he was much more efficient from the floor Wednesday en route to his second double-digit scoring total of the season, fueled by Joel Embiid's (illness) absence. He also matched his highest rebound total of the year, a mark he's reached four times over his last seven appearances. During that time, he's averaged 5.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in 19.1 minutes per game.

  • 76ers' Robert Covington: Back to bench

Covington won't start Sunday's game against the Nets, Ky Carlin of USA Today reports.

Covington drew three straight starts in Nicolas Batum's absence, posting 8.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.7 blocks in 24.3 minutes per game during that stretch. However, Batum has returned to the team and will reclaim his starting spot Sunday. Batum should still see a decent role off the bench, but he shouldn't be expected to play more than 20 minutes versus Brooklyn.

  • 76ers' Robert Covington: Thrives in starting role Wednesday

Covington posted 16 points (6-13 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), six rebounds and two steals across 37 minutes during Wednesday's 117-107 loss to Boston.

Covington was expected to handle a more significant workload with Kelly Oubre (ribs) and Nicolas Batum (personal) sidelined, and that was precisely the case. However, it wouldn't be surprising if he heads back to the bench Friday when the 76ers take on the Hawks on Friday, assuming Batum becomes available. If not, there's a strong chance Covington would remain in the starting lineup while having a higher usage rate than in past contests.

  • 76ers' Robert Covington: Will start Tuesday

Covington will start Tuesday's game against the Pacers, Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star reports.

Nicolas Batum started in Kelly Oubre's (ribs) stead Sunday, but Batum will be unavailable for Tuesday's game for personal reasons, opening up an opportunity for Covington. Over his last five appearances, Covington has averaged 3.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.2 steals in 13.4 minutes, but he figures to have a larger workload against Indiana.

  • 76ers' Robert Covington: Held to two points

Covington contributed two points (1-5 FG, 0-2 3Pt), five rebounds and two assists across 16 minutes during Sunday's 137-126 win over the Pacers.

Covington was mostly just a spectator while Tyrese Maxey poured in 50 points. Covington's usage and minutes have been very low with the 76ers, so he's mostly just a defensive specialist in very deep fantasy leagues.

  • 76ers' Robert Covington: Omitted from injury report

Covington (trade pending) isn't listed on the injury report for Thursday's game against the Raptors.

Covington, Marcus Morris and Kenyon Martin will suit up for their first game with the 76ers this season, but Nicolas Batum (personal) will not. Covington was a starter with the Clippers, but he'll begin as a reserve in Philadelphia. Over three appearances with Los Angeles, Covington averaged 3.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals in 23.0 minutes per game.

  • 76ers' Robert Covington: Traded to Philadelphia

Covington, Marcus Morris, Nicolas Batum and Kenyon Martin were acquired by the 76ers on Tuesday in a three-team deal that sent James Harden, P.J. Tucker and Filip Petrusev to the Clippers, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. The 76ers also acquired first-round draft picks in 2026 and 2028, 2024 and 2029 second-round draft picks and the right to a first-round pick swap with the Clippers in 2029, while the Thunder acquired the right to swap first-round picks with the Clippers in 2027.

Covington handled a starting role for the Clippers over the first three games this season but had limited production, averaging 3.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 23.0 minutes per game. The 32-year-old proved capable of handling substantial playing time earlier in his career, but he averaged just 16.2 minutes per game during his first full season with LA in 2022-23. He'll now return to Philadelphia, where he played for over four seasons in the early stages of his career. Covington is unlikely to approach the averages of 12.9 points and 5.6 rebounds in 30.1 minutes per game that he generated during his first stint with the 76ers, but he could at least have the opportunity to maintain a spot in the starting five in Philadelphia.

  • Clippers' Robert Covington: Fails to score in blowout win

Covington notched zero points (0-1 FG, 0-1 3Pt), three rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal over 26 minutes during Sunday's 123-83 victory over the Spurs.

Covington became the 22nd player in NBA history to score zero points while playing at least 25 minutes and recording a plus-25 net rating in a game. His inability to get going offensively removes him from fantasy radars until he proves otherwise, as he's compiled just nine points in 69 minutes through three games.

  • Clippers' Robert Covington: Starting in place of Mann

Covington will enter the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against Portland, Mark Medina of NBA.com reports.

Though Covington was beaten out by Terance Mann (ankle) for the starting power forward spot, he'll open up the 2023-24 campaign in the first unit with Mann sidelined. Considering Mann hasn't been given a timeline for a return, Covington could enjoy an extended stint with the starters.

  • Clippers' Robert Covington: Slated for backup role

Covington will open the 2023-24 regular season as a reserve, Justin Russo of the 'Clip & Roll' podcast reports.

Terance Mann was named the starting power forward, so Covington, Nicolas Batum and Marcus Morris will compete for backup minutes. Last year, Covington was out of the rotation at times and averaged just 16.2 minutes per game -- the fewest since his rookie campaign. However, he's expected to see more playing time this season.

Covington is in the starting lineup for Thursday's matchup against the Nuggets, Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN reports.
