Vavra (shoulder) will return to the Orioles' Grapefruit League lineup Friday versus the Twins, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Vavra has been sidelined since last weekend with a sore left shoulder, but he went through a full workout Thursday with no issues. The 25-year-old is competing for a utility job and is also an option to see at-bats in the designated hitter spot.... See More ... See Less

Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Swinging again
Vavra (shoulder) said he will resume swinging a bat Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Vavra noted that he feels much better since experiencing left shoulder discomfort late last week, and his ability to swing the bat again should represent an important test as he aims to return to the Grapefruit League lineup. If all goes well during his workout Tuesday, Vavra could be cleared for game action within the next couple of days.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Should not miss much time
Vavra said Sunday that his injured shoulder is feeling better and that he "should not be out long," Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Vavra was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's spring game, and he remains out of the lineup for Sunday's exhibition contest. However, it does not appear he is dealing with an issue that will put his availability for Opening Day in question.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Dealing with sore shoulder
Vavra is considered day-to-day with left shoulder discomfort, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. Vavra was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's exhibition contest, and it was revealed afterward that he felt soreness while taking part in batting practice prior to the game. It remains to be seen if he will miss any additional time.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: In mix for reps at first base
Vavra is being considered for the backup role at first base, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun reports. Vavra is far from alone in the competition to be Ryan Mountcastle's understudy at first. The group also includes Anthony Santander, Franchy Cordero and James McCann. There doesn't appear to be a clear path to playing time for Vavra, who has seen at least some time at every position excluding first and catcher over the last two years. He's most likely to be a utility man if he breaks camp with the Orioles.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Slugs first career homer
Vavra went 2-for-8 with a three-run home run across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays. Vavra took Mitch White deep in the eighth inning to tally his first career home run. He has gotten relatively consistent starts since Sept. 17, and he has gone 10-for-38 while striking out at only an 8.6 percent clip in that span. Vavra could earn a roster spot in Baltimore in 2023 thanks to his defensive versatility, though he should not be projected to contribute much with his bat.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Returns from hamstring injury
Vavra (hamstring) will start at second base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Though the lefty-hitting Vavra is in the lineup against Boston southpaw Rich Hill over fellow lefty hitter Rougned Odor, the latter player may be on track to draw the majority of the starts at the keystone moving forward while he's swinging a hot bat. Now that he's overcome his hamstring injury, Vavra could still have a fairly consistent path to at-bats while handling a utility role over the final week of the season. Ramon Urias (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, removing one potential challenger for playing time from the mix.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Still out with hamstring injury
Vavra (hamstring) is not in Tuesday's lineup, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. With Jesus Aguilar falling out of favor, it seemed that Vavra could take on a larger role down the stretch, but that is now going to Kyle Stowers due to Vavra's hamstring injury.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Misses Monday with hamstring issue
Vavra was unavailable Monday versus the Red Sox due to hamstring soreness, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Vavra has been a part-timer for much of September anyway, so his absence isn't likely to make much of an impact. It's unclear if he'll be ready to start or available off the bench in Tuesday's game.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Loses hold of regular role
Vavra is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Guardians, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. The lefty-hitting Vavra is on the bench versus a right-hander (Cal Quantrill) for the fourth game in a row and appears to have lost hold of an everyday role. The Orioles will likely rotate the open spot in the lineup among a number of players, but fellow rookie Kyle Stowers looks to be the main beneficiary. Stowers will be making his third start in five contests Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Remains on bench
Vavra is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Houston, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Vavra is 1-for-18 over his past nine appearances and will take a seat Sunday for the fourth time in five games. Adley Rutschman will serve as the designated hitter while Robinson Chirinos works behind the plate.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Remains on bench
Vavra isn't starting Saturday against the Astros, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Vavra went 0-for-6 with two strikeouts over his last two games and will take a seat for the third time in the last four matchups. Cedric Mullins will serve as the designated hitter and lead off.... Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Takes seat Friday
Vavra is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Astros, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Vavra is 1-for-18 with seven strikeouts in his last nine contests and will head to the bench Friday. Anthony Santander will serve as the designated hitter while Kyle Stowers starts in the outfield in the series opener.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Back from paternity list
Vavra was reinstated from the paternity list Monday. Vavra will be back with the team after missing the last three contests while with his family. Prior to being placed on the paternity list, the 25-year-old had been filling a near-everyday role for the Orioles and had gone 1-for-12 with five strikeouts over his previous seven games. It's unclear if he or fellow rookie Kyle Stowers will stick around in Baltimore's regular lineup moving forward.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Placed on paternity list
Vavra was placed on the paternity list Friday. Vavra will now be away from the team for a few days as he attends the birth of his child. Richie Martin was called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday to replace him on the active roster.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Riding pine Wednesday
Vavra isn't starting Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Vavra started the last two games and went 0-for-4 with two runs, an RBI, two walks and a strikeout. Anthony Santander will serve as the designated hitter while Ryan McKenna enters the lineup in left field.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: On bench again Sunday
Vavra is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. The 25-year-old sat out Saturday with lefty Shane McClanahan pitching for Tampa Bay, and he'll remain on the bench Sunday with right-hander Drew Rasmussen on the mound. Vavra had his contract selected by Baltimore in late July and has a .323/.405/.419 slash line with six RBI and five runs through his first 13 big-league contests.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Sits against southpaw
Vavra isn't starting Saturday's game against Tampa Bay, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Vavra has started exclusively against right-handed pitchers in the big leagues this year, and he'll get a breather with southpaw Shane McClanahan on the mound for the Rays. Adley Rutschman will serve as the designated hitter while Robinson Chirinos starts behind the plate.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Idle versus lefty
Vavra is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports. Though the lefty-hitting Vavra will take a seat against Blue Jays southpaw Yusei Kikuchi, the rookie has performed well enough thus far during his brief time in the majors to warrant a regular spot in the lineup versus right-handed pitching. Through his first nine big-league games, Vavra has reached base in 12 of his 25 plate appearances while striking out only three times.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Terrin Vavra: On bench Wednesday
Vavra isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. Vavra started the last two games and went 2-for-5 with three runs, four walks and a strikeout. Although he should serve as the primary designated hitter against right-handed pitchers after Trey Mancini was traded to Houston, Vavra will get a breather Wednesday with southpaw Martin Perez on the mound for the Rangers....
