Daniel (1-1) picked up his first big-league win in Friday's 5-1 victory over Oakland, yielded two hits and a walk over five shutout innings out of the bullpen. Daniel finished the game after starter Chase Silseth allowed one run through four frames. The rookie right-hander threw 47 of 61 pitches for strikes and worked around the only threat he faced in the ninth inning. Since being promoted to the big leagues earlier this month, the 26-year-old made three extended relief appearances for the Angels, registering a 2.19 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 12.1 frames.... Angels' Davis Daniel: Handed first loss
Daniel (0-1) took the loss Friday in the Angels' 8-6 loss to the Twins, allowing three runs on three hits and five walks over 4.1 relief innings. He struck out six. The 26-year-old right-hander took over for opener Jose Suarez in the second inning and was handed his first MLB loss after serving up a solo homer to Alex Kirilloff in the sixth. Daniel also allowed a pair of runs in the fourth inning while struggling with his command, throwing just 48 strikes on 91 pitches. He has now walked eight batters in 7.1 career MLB innings.... Angels' Davis Daniel: Officially recalled
The Angels recalled Daniel from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday to pitch against Minnesota. Davis' last appearance came on Sept. 13 with Salt Lake, where he surrendered two runs on two hits and seven walks over the course of four innings. He has yet to allow a run in the majors through three frames, but recent issues with command could cause him to get into trouble as he pitches bulk innings Friday. Aaron Loup (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Davis Daniel: Activated, optioned to Triple-A
The Angels reinstated Daniel (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Salt Lake. Daniel logged a 1.78 ERA and 0.95 WHIP alongside a 37:5 K:BB during his rehab assignment across rookie and High-A ball. He's been on the injured list since February due to a strained right shoulder, and the Angels will allow him to keep developing in Triple-A rather than adding him to their major-league rotation. He put up a 4.49 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 102.1 innings with Triple-A Salt Lake in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Davis Daniel: Another gem on rehab assignment
Daniel (shoulder) struck out six while allowing two hits and no walks over six scoreless innings in his latest rehab start Tuesday with Single-A Inland Empire. Daniel remains on the Angels' 60-day injured list, but his 30-day rehab window will come to a close at the end of the month and he's expected to soon be activated and assigned to either Triple-A Salt Lake or Double-A Rocket City. The right-hander has had little trouble regaining his command and control as he works his way back from the shoulder strain that has sidelined him since spring training. Through five rehab outings between stops with Inland Empire and the Angels' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate, Daniel has submitted an 0.90 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 27:2 K:BB over 20 innings.... Angels' Davis Daniel: Begins rehab assignment
Daniel (shoulder) began a minor-league rehab stint with the Angels' Arizona Complex League team Aug. 1, and he's thus far allowed one run on four hits and posted a 9:0 K:BB over five innings spanning two starts. Daniel opened the regular season on the 60-day IL due to a right shoulder strain, and he only recently began pitching in minor-league games. The results have so far been impressive despite the level of competition, and in Daniel's most recent outing he struck out seven batters in three scoreless frames. The 26-year-old has been a starter throughout his minor-league tenure, but he'd likely work out of the bullpen if given the chance to make his major-league debut before the end of the current campaign.... Angels' Davis Daniel: Placed on 60-day IL
Daniel was placed on the 60-day injured list by the Angels on Thursday due to a right shoulder strain, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for left-hander Matt Moore, whose one-year, $7.55 million deal with the Angels is now official. Daniel posted a 4.49 ERA and 83:32 K:BB over 102.1 innings last season at Triple-A Salt Lake and won't be much of a factor in the early part of the 2023 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Davis Daniel: Contract selected
Daniel's contract was selected by the Angels on Saturday. Daniel doesn't come with a ton of prospect pedigree, as he was the 211th overall pick in the 2019 draft and looks like a back-end starter at best according to his scouting reports. He recorded a 3.64 ERA in nine starts for Triple-A Salt Lake this season, though that came with a modest 19.3 percent strikeout rate. He's pitched almost exclusively as a starter in the minors, but it looks like he'll be a reliever for now, as the Angels don't have a hole in their rotation at the moment.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Davis Daniel: Invited to big-league camp
Daniel will serve as a non-roster invitee during spring training in 2022. Daniel advanced to Triple-A Salt Lake in 2021, but he faced some struggles against the improved competition and unforgiving ballparks of Triple-A West. The right-hander made five appearances (four starts) and posted a 10.29 ERA and 2.05 WHIP in 21 innings. He'll now have a chance to develop with the big-league coaching staff this spring and will likely be in the mix to make his major-league debut at some point in 2022 as long as he can display improved results with the Bees....
