DeLuzio was a roster casualty after the Dodgers promoted two of their top outfield prospects, Jonny DeLuca and Andy Pages, from Double-A Tulsa to Triple-A on Tuesday. After attending Dodgers camp as a non-roster invitee and failing to win a spot on the Opening Day roster, DeLuzio posted a .544 OPS while striking out in 31.1 percent of his plate appearances at Triple-A. The 28-year-old previously reached the big leagues with the Cardinals in 2022, appearing in 22 games.

DeLuzio was reassigned Thursday to the minor-league side of Cubs camp, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports.
DeLuzio has incredible raw speed, but he batted just .150/.292/.200 over his first 25 major-league plate appearances last season with the Cardinals. He was 2-for-8 this spring in Cactus League play and will serve as organizational outfield depth for Chicago.

Most of DeLuzio's time was spent in Triple-A Memphis last season, where he slashed .277/.353/.429 over 408 plate appearances alongside 30 stolen bases. He made his MLB debut in 2022 as well, putting up an uninspiring .492 OPS in 25 plate appearances. The 28-year-old outfielder will likely get some offers and start next season in the minors, but there's no telling how long it will be before he can sustain success in the majors.

Cardinals' Ben DeLuzio: Officially joins big-league club
DeLuzio's contract was selected from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.
DeLuzio was selected by the Cardinals in the minor-league portion of the 2021 Rule 5 draft and is in line to make his major-league debut once he enters a game for St. Louis. He performed well for the Triple-A club this year, posting a .782 OPS with nine homers, 60 runs, 49 RBI and 30 stolen bases. The 28-year-old should provide outfield depth for the Cardinals, and it's possible the team will use him as a pinch runner late in games given the speed that he's showcased in the minors.

Cardinals' Ben DeLuzio: Getting call to big leagues
The Cardinals plan to select DeLuzio's contract from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
The 28-year-old DeLuzio, whom the Cardinals selected in the minor-league portion of the 2021 Rule 5 draft last December, will reach the majors for the first time since entering the professional ranks in 2016. Over 94 games with Memphis this season, DeLuzio slashed .277/.353/.429 with nine home runs and a 30-for-36 success rate on stolen-base attempts. He'll likely serve as outfield depth in September for St. Louis, with most of DeLuzio's work likely to come in center field when either of Tyler O'Neill or Dylan Carlson are sitting out.
