The Twins optioned Gasper to Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Phil Miller of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.
Gasper will head back to the minors even with Christian Vazquez working through a right hand injury, leaving Ryan Jeffers as the only healthy catcher currently on the Twins' roster. Gasper has appeared in 10 major-league games for Minnesota this season, going 2-for-18 with four walks and one run scored in 22 plate appearances.

Gasper said that he's fine after suffering a left ankle laceration in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox, and noted Monday that he has been told he made the Twins' Opening Day roster, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.
Gasper received six stitches to seal the cut, which he suffered when he was spiked by teammate Brandon Winokur while attempting to field a groundball. The laceration is not expected to hinder him moving forward, and Gasper has earned a spot on the Opening Day roster after slashing .289/.404/.395 this spring. The switch hitter is capable of handling first base, second base and catcher.

The 29-year-old collided with teammate Brandon Winokur while attempting to field a groundball and appeared to catch a spike. Gasper was acquired from the Red Sox in December and hit well during spring training with a .289/.404/.395 slash line in 47 plate appearances.

Gasper will give way to Trevor Story (shoulder) on the active roster as Story returns from the 60-day injured list. Gasper failed to log a hit in 16 plate appearances with the Red Sox but holds a 1.179 OPS at Triple-A.

Gasper has slashed .341/.458/.559 with 12 home runs this season between Double-A Portland and Worcester, splitting time primarily between catcher and first base. The 28-year-old's presence on the roster could allow the Red Sox to use their top two backstops, Connor Wong and Danny Jansen, in the same lineup more often.
