Player Outlook
Royber Salinas was one of several prospects acquired by Oakland in the three-team deal that saw the club move Sean Murphy to Atlanta, and the 22-year-old forged a 5.48 ERA over 67.1 innings across 20 appearances -- 18 of those starts -- in his work for Double-A Midland in 2023. While those numbers may not jump off the page in a positive way, he also struck out 89 hitters in that timeframe, and there is swing-and-miss stuff in his arsenal. He can touch the high 90s with his fastball with little effort, and he also has a slider that gets plus grades. Command is a major issue for the right-hander, and there's a good chance he won't throw enough strikes to be a starter at the highest level. The A's added Salinas to the 40-man roster in the offseason, and if he can keep the walks to a minimum, he has a chance to make appearances in Oakland before 2024 comes to a conclusion.
