The only run Winn allowed came on a Pete Alonso solo homer in the fifth inning, which was also the Mets' lone extra-base hit in the contest. The right-handed hurler finished with his second straight quality start, and he's allowed just two runs over 12 frames during that two-game stretch. Winn appears to be finding a groove and has been a valuable component of San Francisco's pitching staff so far this season, posting a 3.54 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB through 28 innings.

Winn then closed out the frame, and the Giants took the lead in the top of the seventh to put him in line for his first win of the campaign. The 26-year-old surrendered seven runs across his first two starts of the season but has bounced back in his last two outings with 2.70 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB over 11 innings.

Winn got off to a rough beginning in the contest, giving up four first-inning runs on a Jurickson Profar grand slam. The second-year hurler rebounded to hold the Padres scoreless and hitless over the following five frames, but San Francisco was unable to put any runs on the scoreboard, resulting in the right-hander taking his second loss. It was at least promising to see Winn keep his composure after the difficult first inning, but it's also worth noting that he didn't miss many bats, as he induced just four swinging strikes and one punchout. The lack of strikeouts and mostly mediocre minor-league numbers limit's Winn's current fantasy appeal.

Winn's Cactus League debut might not come until next week at the soonest, but the right-hander's ability to pitch in a minor-league game suggests that he's completed his throwing progression after he was shut down early in camp due to a sore elbow. Because of the time he's missed thus far in camp, Winn could be facing an uphill battle to get fully stretched out for a starter's workload prior to the Giants' March 28 season opener, but the team isn't yet discounting the possibility of him being included on the Opening Day roster. With Alex Cobb (hip) and Sean Hjelle (elbow) seemingly trending toward joining Tristan Beck (arm) and Robbie Ray (elbow) on the injured list to begin the season, Winn has a clear path to a back-end rotation spot if the Giants are comfortable with where he stands in his buildup program by the end of the spring.
