  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Yields six runs in loss

Winn (1-3) took the loss Friday versus the Dodgers, allowing six runs on six hits and striking out five without walking a batter over 5.1 innings. Winn was tagged for three home runs to account for all of the offense against him in his return from a nine-day stint on the COVID-19 injured list. Winn closes the season with a 4.68 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 35:8 K:BB over 42.1 innings across nine appearances (five starts) in his first big-league campaign. The 25-year-old righty will likely have a chance to compete for a rotation spot in spring training next year.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Activated for start Friday

Winn was activated from the COVID-19 injured list ahead of his start Friday versus the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. After clearing health and safety protocols, Winn will look to finish his rookie campaign on a high note Friday at Oracle Park in San Francisco. The 25-year-old right-hander holds a 3.89 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB through his first 37 major-league innings.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Returning for start Friday

Winn (illness) is scheduled to return from the COVID-19-related injured list to start Friday's series opener against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Winn has been on the COVID-19-related IL since Sept. 19, but he's cleared health and safety protocols and will fit in one more start with the Giants before their 2023 season comes to a close. The 25-year-old right-hander carries a strong 3.89 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB through his first 37 major-league innings this season, though his highest single-game pitch count is 80.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Works four innings Saturday

Winn allowed three runs on three hits and two walks, striking out five batters over four innings while notching a no-decision in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Colorado on Saturday. All three runs Winn allowed scored on a third-inning, bases-clearing triple by Ezequiel Tovar. Though Winn has bounced between pitching as a traditional starter and a bulk reliever, his workload has been fairly consistent, as he's completed between four and six innings in seven of his eight appearances. The rookie right-hander has held his own in the majors thus far, posting a 3.89 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB over 37 frames.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Strikes out nine in win

Winn (1-2) allowed three runs on five hits and struck out nine without walking a batter over six innings to earn the win Sunday over the Rockies. Winn's last outing was last Sunday, when he pitched five scoreless innings out of the bullpen. He got the start this time around and turned in a quality start, his second in seven appearances this season. The rookie right-hander has been effective so far with a 3.55 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB through 33 innings. It's unclear what his role will be going forward, though the Giants certainly have a need for solid starting efforts. If he remains in the rotation, his next outing would be a rematch with the Rockies in Colorado.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Expected to be featured Sunday

Winn is likely to pitch Sunday against the Rockies, whether it's as a traditional starter or bulk reliever, Danny Emerman of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports. Giants manager Gabe Kapler has yet to make an official call on a starter yet, but Winn will be featured in some form. The rookie right-hander tossed five scoreless relief frames in his last appearance and holds a 3.33 ERA and 16:6 K:BB over 27 frames overall this season.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Back in action at Triple-A

Winn (elbow) was reinstated from Triple-A Sacramento's 7-day injured list Saturday and gave up five earned runs on five hits and no walks while striking out three in 2.2 innings in his return to action against Tacoma. Winn was sidelined for just a month due to right elbow soreness. The right-hander made five appearances (two starts) with the Giants earlier in 2023 but will likely need to enjoy a sustained run of success at Sacramento before garnering another look with the big club.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Goes on IL at Triple-A

Triple-A Sacramento placed Winn (elbow) on its 7-day injured list Saturday. Winn was deactivated after he experienced soreness in his right elbow coming out of his most recent outing with Sacramento on July 22. Fortunately for Winn, his follow-up tests revealed no structural damage to his elbow, but it's unclear if he'll be able to pitch again in 2023 while he recovers from the injury. Before he was optioned to Sacramento on July 6, Winn went 2-1 with a 4.09 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 22 innings in five appearances (two starts) with the Giants.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: No structural damage in elbow

Winn's medical exam Saturday revealed no structural damage in his right elbow, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Winn had been dealing with soreness in his elbow and made the trip to San Francisco to get looked at by a specialist. Luckily, no major problem was uncovered, though he was still placed on Sacramento's 7-day injured list.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Goes four innings in start

Winn (0-2) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over four innings in a 6-0 loss to the Mariners. He struck out two. After posting a quality start on 67 pitches in his first MLB start last week, Winn made his second appearance in the rotation Tuesday and threw 67 pitches once again but only lasted four frames. He was constantly under pressure by a Mariners offense that scored in each of the first three innings and surrendered a solo homer to Mike Ford in the third. Though Winn could stick around at the tail end of the Giants' rotation for another start or two with Anthony DeSclafani (shoulder fatigue) on the 15-day injured list, he remains an untrustworthy streaming option given his apparent workload limitations.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Draws another start

Winn is scheduled to start Tuesday's game versus the Mariners at Oracle Park. Winn will be making his second turn through the Giants rotation after impressing in his first MLB start last Thursday in Toronto. While facing off against a formidable offense on the road, Winn struck out three and allowed two earned runs and six baserunners over six innings in a losing effort. The right-hander draws a more favorable matchup this time around and could make sense as a streaming option while facing a Mariners offense that has struck out at a 26.1 percent clip -- the third-highest rate in the majors -- since June 1.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Fares well in first MLB start

Winn (0-1) took the loss against Toronto on Thursday, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out three batters over six innings. Winn pitched well in his first start as a big-leaguer, needing just 67 pitches to get through six frames. He kept the Blue Jays off the scoreboard through 5.2 innings before Vladimir Guerrero tagged him for a two-run, two-out homer in the sixth to break a scoreless tie. A lack of run support resulted in Winn taking the loss, but he certainly pitched well enough to earn another start. Should he be given that opportunity, he's tentatively lined up to face the Mariners at home his next time out.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Making first MLB start

Winn will make his first major-league start for the Giants on Thursday in Toronto, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Winn's first three appearances in the big leagues have been in relief, although they've all lasted at least three innings. Nine of the 25-year-old's 12 outings at Triple-A Sacramento this season have come as a starter. That said, while this isn't an opener situation, Winn does figure to have a fairly limited workload Thursday consdering he threw just 44 pitches in his last appearance over the weekend.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Mixed results Saturday

Winn allowed three runs on five hits and struck out three over three-plus innings versus the Diamondbacks on Saturday. He did not factor in the decision. Winn left his bulk-relief assignment with a lead, but Sean Manaea couldn't maintain the lead in the fifth inning. This was the shortest of Winn's three appearances this season, and also the first in which he's given up multiple runs. He's pitched to a 3.75 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB over 12 innings while serving as a multi-inning reliever. The 25-year-old right-hander continues to be one of a handful of options to pitch behind an opener as the Giants utilize bullpen days, though he could also end up back at Triple-A Sacramento once Ross Stripling (back) returns from the injured list.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Notches four-inning save

Winn recorded his first career save in Tuesday's 11-3 win over the Cardinals, allowing one run on one hit and three walks over four innings while striking out two. Making his first career big-league appearance, Winn entered the game with the Giants ahead 6-2 and gave the rest of the bullpen a breather, tossing 55 pitches (30 strikes) to finish out the rout. Despite his successful debut, the 25-year-old right-hander could be shipped back to Triple-A Sacramento in favor of a fresh arm.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Gets first MLB call-up

The Giants recalled Winn from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday. Winn has made nine of his 12 appearances with Sacramento this season as a starter, but he's expected to operate as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen during his upcoming stint with the big club. After being added to the Giants' 40-man roster over the winter, the 25-year-old right-hander submitted a 4.35 ERA and 1.65 WHIP while striking out 51 over 41.1 innings at Sacramento to earn his first call to the majors.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Joining team in St. Louis

Winn is headed to St. Louis to join the Giants for their series against the Cardinals, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. Baggarly writes that Winn will be with the team "in some capacity," so it's unclear at this point whether he'll be recalled or joining the taxi squad. Winn has never pitched in the majors but was added to the 40-man roster over the offseason. He holds a 4.35 ERA and 51:21 K:BB over 41.1 innings with Triple-A Sacramento in 2023, making nine starts and three relief appearances.
