Gore is being shut down for the season Wednesday due to a blister, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports. Gore was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a blister on a left finger. He had strong stretches of run prevention and strikeouts in his first full MLB season, particularly in the first half of the season. However, Gore's WHIP was too high all season long, with that mark settling at 1.40 -- the 18th worst mark among 79 pitchers who logged 130-plus innings.... See More ... See Less

Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Lands on IL
The Nationals placed Gore on the 15-day injured list Saturday with left finger blisters, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Gore's blisters could help explain why he was tagged with four runs in four innings during Friday's loss to the Dodgers. He'll be shut down for the next two weeks which still leaves some room for him to potentially make another start before the end of the year, though it's possible the Nats keep him out for the rest of the season. Joe La Sorsa was recalled from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Can't keep ball in park
Gore came away with a no-decision Friday in the Nationals' 8-5 loss to the Dodgers, giving up four runs on six hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over four innings. He struck out four. The southpaw didn't have his best stuff and got hit hard as a result, serving up a two-run homer to J.D. Martinez in the first inning before Max Muncy and Enrique Hernandez tagged him for solo shots in the fourth. It's the third time in his last five starts Gore has given up multiple home runs, and since the All-Star break the 24-year-old has a 4.44 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 43:18 K:BB through 46.2 innings as he shows signs of fatigue -- he's already thrown 49.1 more innings this year than he did in 2022. If he stays on turn, Gore's next outing will likely come next week in Pittsburgh.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Activated from bereavement list
Washington activated Gore (personal) from the bereavement list Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Gore is back on the Nationals' active roster ahead of Tuesday's game against the Mets, but the 24-year-old left-hander is not expected to return to the rotation until Friday's series opener against the Dodgers. Patrick Corbin will start Tuesday versus New York and Joan Adon is lined up for Wednesday's series finale.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Out until at least Friday
Gore (personal) isn't expected to be activated from the bereavement list until at least Friday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Gore was placed on the bereavement list last Thursday and can remain away from the team for anywhere from 3-to-7 days. Prior to being deactivated, the young southpaw had been lined up to make his next start Tuesday against the Mets, but Washington is no longer expecting him back for that game. The Nationals are listing Patrick Corbin and Joan Adon as their starters for their two-game set with the Mets, leaving next weekend's series with the Dodgers as the more likely target date for Gore's return to the rotation.... Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Placed on bereavement list
The Nationals placed Gore on the bereavement list Thursday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports. Gore will be required to miss at least three games and no more than seven as he tends to more important matters. Joe La Sorsa was recalled from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move.... Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Sharp in seventh win
Gore (7-10) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks over five innings in a 5-4 victory over the Blue Jays. He struck out two. The young southpaw got tagged for a solo homer by Davis Schneider but otherwise held Toronto's offense in check, tossing 69 of his 106 pitches for strikes. Homers continue to be an issue for Gore, who's served up 10 of them in eight starts and 42.2 innings since the All-Star break, but he still sports a respectable 4.01 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 39:16 K:BB over that stretch. He's next set to take the mound at home early next week against the Mets.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Blasted by Judge in defeat
Gore (6-10) took the loss against the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing six runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out four batters over four innings. Gore left his previous start early due to a cut fingernail and blister, but that didn't appear to be a problem for him Wednesday. Instead, Aaron Judge was the root of the hurler's struggles, as the slugger tagged him for a solo homer in the first inning and a grand slam in the second. The four runs that scored on the latter long ball were all unearned due to a two-out Washington error, keeping Gore's ERA from taking too big of a hit. Still, Gore hasn't picked up a victory in any of his past five starts and has posted a mediocre 4.38 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over 127.1 innings on the campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Good to go Wednesday
Gore (finger) is listed as the Nationals' probable starter for Wednesday's road game against the Yankees, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Gore's inclusion on Washington's pitching schedule for the three-game set at Yankee Stadium is an indication that the cut nail and blister on his left index finger presented no issues for him during his throwing session over the weekend. He'll be returning to the mound Wednesday on six days' rest after the finger issue cropped up during his most recent outing against the Red Sox on Aug. 16, when he struck out seven and allowed just one hit and two walks over 6.1 scoreless innings prior to departing.... Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Dealing with cut on fingernail
Gore left Wednesday's start against the Red Sox due to a cut nail on his left index finger that developed into a blister, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Gore was taken out of the game after throwing a pitch way out of the zone, but he downplayed the injury after the game. The 24-year-old southpaw surrendered just one hit through 6.1 scoreless frames Wednesday and said that he should be able to make his next start -- tentatively lined up for next Wednesday against the Yankees.... Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Exits with trainer
Gore was removed from his start Wednesday against Boston after suffering an apparent injury, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. After Gore badly missed the zone on a pitch during the seventh inning, a trainer came out to look at him and ended up taking him out of the game. It's not immediately clear what Gore is dealing with, but the Nationals should provide more information soon. For now, he should be considered day-to-day.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Pitches well in no-decision
Gore did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over six innings against the Brewers. He struck out five. Gore left a four-seamer over the middle of the plate in the top of the second, which Tyrone Taylor launched into the stands to give the Brewers their first run of the game. However, the lefty settled in after that mistake, going 1-2-3 over the next two frames before allowing just one more run on a Christian Yelich double in the sixth. It marked Gore's first quality start since June 3, and he's now allowed three or fewer runs in three consecutive outings. On the downside, he's also issued at least two walks in four straight and in eight of his last nine.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Strikes out eight in win
Gore (6-7) earned the win Sunday, allowing four hits and two walks over five scoreless innings against the Giants. He struck out eight. Gore was sharp Sunday, scattering four hits en route to his third win in his last five starts. The 24-year-old southpaw has tallied eight or more strikeouts six times this season. Gore lowered his ERA to 4.37 with a 1.44 WHIP and 122:43 K:BB through 20 starts (101 innings) this year. He's currently lined up to face the Mets on the road in his next outing.... See More ... Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Gives up five runs but nabs victory
Gore (5-7) earned the win over the Cubs on Monday, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six batters over 6.1 innings. Gore was staked to an early lead and gave up just one run through five innings, but he yielded a two-run home run in each of the sixth and seventh frames to lose his quality start. Still, the left-hander pitched well enough to earn the win, just his second over his past 14 outings. Gore had has his share of ups-and-downs this season, giving up five or more runs on four occasions and one or fewer seven different times (though one of those was a rain-shortened appearance his last time out that lasted only 1.1 innings). All of that has added up to a 4.59 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 10.7 K/9, which lines up pretty closely with his marks as a rookie last year.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: On track for next start
Gore (finger) is slated to start Thursday's game against the Reds at Nationals Park. Gore failed to escape the third inning and was lit up for seven earned runs on six hits and three walks in his most recent start against the Phillies on Saturday, revealing afterward that he dealt with a blister on his left middle finger. The southpaw didn't express any concern about the abrasion forcing him to miss his next start, and the Nationals seemingly aren't worried either. Gore will look to bounce back Thursday from his disastrous outing last week, which caused his ERA to jump from 3.89 to 4.48.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Punches out nine in win
Gore (4-6) yielded one run on five hits and two walks over five innings Sunday, striking out nine and earning a win over San Diego. Gore tossed four scoreless innings before the Padres put a run on the board in the fifth frame, setting a new franchise record along the way by striking out the first six batters he faced. He finally got back in the win column for the first time since April 26. In 10 starts between those two wins, Gore posted a 4.53 ERA through 53.2 frames. He lowered his season ERA to 3.89 with a 104:36 K:BB across 16 starts. His next start is lined up to be in Philadelphia.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Yields five runs in loss
Gore (3-5) took the loss against Atlanta on Saturday, allowing five runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three batters over five innings. Four of the five runs Gore gave up came in the second inning, when Atlanta tagged him for a pair of two-run homers. This marks the first time in 2023 that the southpaw has given up more than four runs in an outing, and the performance snapped a streak of two straight quality starts. Gore hasn't picked up a win since April 26, and he's posted a 4.71 ERA with a 48:13 K:BB over 42 innings during the drought. He's made some positive strides this season, though his overall 4.04 ERA and 1.39 WHIP are only slight improvements over his final 2022 numbers.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Bullpen spoils win Sunday
Gore did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Royals, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out 11 over seven innings. Sunday was just the second time Gore had managed to reach seven innings since debuting last season and his 11 strikeouts were a career high. He racked up 23 whiffs and permitted just one free pass for only the second time this year. When he puts it all together, the 24-year-old has boasted some electric stuff and just needs to show more consistency with the command on his off speed pitches. Gore now owns a 3.57 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 74:28 K:BB over 58 innings and lines up for a home matchup with the Phillies next weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Fans seven in Wednesday's loss
Gore (3-3) took the loss Wednesday as the Nationals were downed 4-3 by the Marlins, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out seven. The southpaw tossed 60 of 93 pitches for strikes before exiting, but the Marlins were able to hit him hard when he was in the strike zone, with Jorge Soler's two-run homer in the fourth inning proving to be the biggest blow. Gore's 29.0 percent strikeout rate on the season remains encouraging, though it comes with an 11.5 percent walk rate. He'll take a 3.69 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 58:23 K:BB through 46.1 innings into his next outing, likely to come at home early next week against the Padres.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Bounces back with strong outing
Gore pitched six innings against Arizona on Saturday, allowing two runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out nine batters. He did not factor in the decision. After lasting just four frames against the Cubs in his previous trip to the mound, Gore rebounded with his third quality start across his past four contests Saturday. The southpaw fell one shy of his campaign high by racking up nine punchouts, and he issued just one walk, his fewest so far this season. Gore has shown marked improvement over his uneven 2022 rookie campaign, posting a 3.65 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 48:19 K:BB across 37 innings. If he can work to keep the free passes down, Gore could become an even more attractive option in fantasy leagues, though he's already worth rostering in all but very shallow formats.... See More ...
