Mariners' Eric Filia: Will be assigned to Double-A Arkansas
Filia, who was returned to the Mariners on Friday after he failed his Red Sox physical, will be assigned to Double-A Arkansas later this month.
Filia had originally been the player to be named later in the Roenis Elias deal, but his failed physical led to the Mariners sending the Red Sox cash instead. The nature of what led to the designation remains a mystery. Filia will have a chance to resume what had been a red-hot season with the Travelers that had seen him slash .426/.508/.537 over his first 63 plate appearances.

Mariners' Eric Filia: Returned to Mariners after failed physical
Filia has been returned to the Mariners from the Red Sox after failing a physical, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports Friday.
The Red Sox will instead receive cash consideration in exchange for pitcher Roenis Elias, who was dealt to Seattle in April. This comes as a surprise, as Filia was off to a blistering start, with a .426/.508/.537 batting line in 13 games for Double-A Arkansas. No word has yet been released on exactly what Boston's doctors saw. Expect Filia to return to Double-A Arkansas, assuming he won't require a trip to the disabled list.

Filia was traded from the Mariners to the Red Sox on Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Filia is the player to be named later in the trade that sent Roenis Elias to the Mariners on April 23. The 25-year-old got off to an impressive start with Double-A Arkansas before being traded, hitting .426/.508/.537 with a 9:4 BB:K across 13 games. He'll likely report to Double-A Portland or Triple-A Pawtucket.

Filia is 10-for-23 with two doubles, one home run and eight RBI over his first four games with Double-A Arkansas.
Filia has come off his season-opening 50-game suspension on a mission, going on a jaw-dropping four-game stretch that includes a career-best five-hit night Friday against Frisco. The 25-year-old opened eyes by posting a .408 average in the Arizona Fall League late last year, and he's hit well over .300 in his other pair of prior minor-league stops as well. While he's behind the curve chronologically, Filia could make up some ground and possibly reach the Triple-A level before the end of this season if he continues tearing the cover off the ball consistently.

Filia has been suspended 50 games without pay for a second positive test for a drug of abuse, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
The 25-year-old fringe prospect turned heads in the Arizona Fall League by winning the league's batting title and hitting .408/.483/.605 with one home run and a 7:12 K:BB over 76 at-bats. However, he is far too old for a hitter who has yet to reach Double-A, and now that he will miss the first 50 games of 2018, he may be 26 by the time he reaches Triple-A. His approach may look nice, but it's going to be hard to buy into his numbers until he has success at an age-appropriate level, which for him would be the big leagues.
