Player Outlook
Thairo Estrada followed up his breakout 2022 season with another impressive campaign, though it was truncated by a broken left hand. He returned to slash just .268/.298/.390 in his final 51 games (.272/.327/.434 before the injury). Still, despite playing in 20 fewer games, Estrada matched his homer total and exceeded his stolen-base total from the year prior. His appeal takes a hit in OBP leagues since Estrada owns a career 5.1 BB%, but he's a plus defender and carries dual eligibility into the 2024 season (second base, shortstop). While Estrada's batted-ball numbers do little to excite, he's now turned in three straight years of above-average offensive production. With better luck on the health front, Estrada could reach 600 plate appearances for the first time in his career as an everyday presence in the Giants' middle infield.

  • Giants' Thairo Estrada: Homers twice in win

Estrada went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a walk, three RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's win over the Rays. Estrada had himself a day on Saturday, taking Ryan Pepiot deep for a solo shot in the top of the fourth and later adding a second long ball in the seventh as the Giants dominated the Rays. The shortstop got off to a slow start to begin this month but has now registered multiple hits in back-to-back contests and has hit safely in six of his last eight. Estrada has three home runs on the campaign already, putting him well on pace to surpass the 14 he hit in each of the last two seasons.

  • Giants' Thairo Estrada: Doing fine in spring

Estrada has gone 3-for-12 over four Cactus League games. While the Giants' infield is getting crowded after Friday's signing of Matt Chapman, there's little reason to think Estrada is in danger of losing his starting job at the keystone. Estrada hit .271 with a .731 OPS, 14 home runs, 23 stolen bases, 49 RBI and 63 runs scored over 120 contests last year. With a little more pop in the Giants' lineup, his counting stats could rise if he stays in the top half of the order.

  • Giants' Thairo Estrada: Scans clean, but out of lineup

Estrada is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Philadelphia but expects to be available off the bench after scans on his injured right hand came back clean, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Estrada played all nine innings and reached base three times in the Giants' 4-3 triumph over Atlanta on Sunday, but he came away from the contest hurting after being hit in the hand by a pitch in the top of the ninth. Fortunately for Estrada and the Giants, the pitch hit him on the forearm rather than on the hamate bone of his wrist, so he's likely just dealing with bruising or soreness rather than a serious injury. He'll take a seat for Monday's series opener, but Estrada should have a good chance at stepping back into the starting nine Tuesday.
