The Tigers announced Tuesday that Leonard (oblique) will be re-evaluated next week and could begin a baseball progression program, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Leonard, who is a member of the Tigers' 40-man roster, was placed on Triple-A Toledo's 7-day injured list on April 9 after straining his left oblique. He's been able to complete daily rehab since being shut down with the injury, but Leonard has yet to get back on the field for hitting, fielding or running.... See More ... See Less

Tigers' Eddys Leonard: Nursing oblique strain
Leonard is recovering from a left oblique strain, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Leonard suffered the injury while playing for Triple-A Toledo and is now headed to extended spring training to rehab. It's not clear at this point how much time he might miss.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Eddys Leonard: Sent down to minors
The Tigers optioned Leonard to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Leonard entered camp seemingly with a shot to win a bench job and fared well this spring with a .984 OPS, but he'll nonetheless head to Toledo for now. The 23-year-old was acquired from the Dodgers last August.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Eddys Leonard: In running for final bench spot
Leonard is one of several players who figure to compete for Detroit's final bench spot this spring along with new acquisition Keston Hiura, Ryan Kreidler and others, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Leonard has yet to make his MLB debut, while Kreidler played with the Tigers some last season and Hiura has appeared in 284 games at the MLB level, so Leonard may be third in the pecking order to begin the regular season. However, he has some defensive versatility and posted a .904 OPS in 40 contests with Triple-A Toledo last season, so the youngster could be on the verge of cracking the big-league roster soon. Leonard's cause would be boosted if Kreidler and Hiura struggle at the plate in camp or early in the regular season.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Eddys Leonard: Sent to Detroit
The Tigers acquired Leonard from the Dodgers on Tuesday in exchange for cash. Leonard was designated for assignment by Los Angeles last week and will now make his way to Detroit's 40-man roster. The 22-year-old has a .257/.330/.423 slash line with 12 home runs in 92 games at the Double-A level this season. He's expected to report to Triple-A Toledo with his new organization.... See More ... Dodgers' Eddys Leonard: Dropped from 40-man roster
Leonard was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Friday. Leonard is a 40-man roster casualty following the Dodgers' acquisition of both Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly from the White Sox. Justin Bruihl also got the boot. Leonard, a 22-year-old infielder, had slashed .254/.327/.411 with 11 homers and three steals through 92 games this season at Double-A Tulsa.... See More ... Dodgers' Eddys Leonard: Sent down to minors camp
Leonard was optioned Monday to minor-league camp by the Dodgers. Leonard has performed well in 21 plate appearances in the Cactus League with a .400/.429/.450 slash line and three RBI. The infielder will likely start the 2023 campaign in Double-A after hitting .264 with a .784 OPS and 15 homers for High-A Great Lakes in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Eddys Leonard: Solid performer in High-A
Leonard has a .264/.366/.460 line with seven homers, one steal and a 20:36 BB:K over 47 games for High-A Great Lakes this season. He slugged 22 homers and stole nine bags in the minors last year, but Leonard's power and speed production have both fallen off noticeably so far this season. Even so, the 21-year-old has been solid at the plate while seeing time at three infield positions (second, third and short) as well as center field. He seems to have a classic utility profile, though there's still room for skill growth here.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Eddys Leonard: Rewarded with 40-man roster spot
Leonard was added to the Dodgers' 40-man roster Friday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. Leonard forced the Dodgers to protect him from the Rule 5 draft after slashing .299/.375/.530 with eight home runs in 41 games as a 20-year-old at High-A. The Dodgers will always have a crowded infield, but he might bring enough offensive impact to the table to get a look in a couple years.... See More ... See Less
