Giants' Luis Matos: Sits again Friday
Matos remains out of the lineup Friday versus the Dodgers. San Francisco will ride the hot hand with Tyler Fitzgerald, who is making a second straight start in center field after hitting a double and drawing a bases-loaded walk Thursday in his major-league debut. Matos has gone 3-for-20 with one walk and three strikeouts over his last seven games.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Luis Matos: Hits bench Thursday
Matos isn't in the Giants' lineup Thursday against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The newly-promoted Tyler Fitzgerald will make his major-league debut in center field and bat ninth while Matos rests.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Luis Matos: Not starting Tuesday
Matos isn't in the Giants' lineup Tuesday against Arizona, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Matos is slashing .344/.400/.406 since returning from Triple-A Sacramento on Sept. 6, and he'll take a seat to begin San Francisco's series with the D-backs. Mike Yastrzemski will shift to center field while Matos rests, allowing Mitch Haniger to start in left while batting sixth.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Luis Matos: On bench Sunday
Matos is out of the lineup Sunday versus the Rockies. Matos had started in every game since Sept. 6. That was when he was summoned back to the big leagues, and he has gone 11-for-32 since while registering an .806 OPS.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Luis Matos: Reaches base four times in win
Matos went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and a run scored in Friday's 9-8 win over the Rockies. Matos has a pair of multi-hit efforts since he was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. If he can keep hitting like that, he'll have no trouble holding down a regular role in center field. The 21-year-old outfielder is batting .266 with two home runs, 11 RBI, 22 runs scored and three stolen bases over 207 plate appearances in the majors this season. Matos has displayed solid plate discipline with a 13.0 percent strikeout rate and a 7.2 percent walk rate, which bodes well for his development down the line.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Luis Matos: Summoned to big leagues
Matos was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. The Giants elected to keep Wade Meckler around last week when Mike Yastrzemski returned, but they've reversed course this week. Matos should receive fairly regular playing time, whether that comes in center field or in a corner spot with Yastrzemski moving back to center.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Luis Matos: Sent back to minors
Matos was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Mike Yastrzemski is back from the injured list and it's Matos -- and not Wade Meckler -- losing his roster spot. The rookie outfielder has slashed .250/.311/.356 in his first 59 big-league contests.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Luis Matos: Garners third straight start
Matos will start in right field and bat ninth in Sunday's game against Atlanta, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. He'll nab his third consecutive start after going 2-for-5 with a double between the first two contests of the series. With all of Michael Conforto (hamstring), Mike Yastrzemski (hamstring), Mitch Haniger (forearm) and AJ Pollock (oblique) stuck on the injured list, Matos could get a chance to play on a near-everyday basis in the Giants outfield.... Giants' Luis Matos: Homers in return to majors
Matos went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over Atlanta. Matos, who was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento prior to Sunday's contest, opened the scoring in the second inning with a 425-foot blast off of Max Fried. It's Matos' second homer with the Giants this season after hitting 10 in the minors. Overall, the rookie outfielder is slashing .245/.309/.337 with 18 runs scored, 10 RBI and three steals across 180 major-league plate appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Luis Matos: Recalled, starting Sunday
Matos was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento and is starting in left field and batting seventh Sunday in Atlanta. The 21-year-old was sent to Sacramento on Monday but will quickly rejoin the big club with Brandon Crawford (forearm) landing on the injured list. Matos has a .241/.306/.316 slash line in his first 50 major-league games.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Luis Matos: Optioned to Triple-A
The Giants optioned Matos to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Matos had gone 4-for-27 (.148) over his last 10 games and is slashing just .241/.306/.316 in 175 total plate appearances this season at the major-league level. Wade Meckler is getting the call to San Francisco in a corresponding roster move.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Luis Matos: Sitting Sunday

Giants' Luis Matos: Gets Saturday off
Matos isn't in the Giants' lineup Saturday against the Pirates, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Matos will get a day off Saturday after going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored during Friday's series opener. Blake Sabol, Mike Yastrzemski and Michael Conforto will man San Francisco's outfield from left to right Saturday while Matos sits.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Luis Matos: Posts steal in win
Matos went 2-for-4 with one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 6-4 win over the Pirates. Matos is hitting .391 over eight games in July. The steal was his first since June 21, and he's gone 13 games without a home run. The rookie outfielder is slashing .263/.333/.342 with a homer, three steals, five RBI and 12 runs scored across 85 plate appearances while seeing a majority of the playing time in center field since his promotion to the big leagues.... Giants' Luis Matos: Cranks first homer
Matos went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's win over Arizona. Matos grounded into a double play in his first at-bat before reaching on a single in his second plate appearance. However, the rookie outfielder stole the show in the bottom of the sixth, crushing a two-run home run to left field to score Brandon Crawford and put the Giants up 7-5. It was Matos' first home run of his big-league career and his second two-RBI game since being called up earlier this month. He's also recorded three two-hit games while maintaining a very solid 6:3 BB:K at the plate.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Luis Matos: Collects second steal
Matos went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Padres. Matos singled, stole second and scored to spark a four-run rally in the fifth inning. This was his second multi-hit effort in his young career, and he's batting .304 (7-for-23) over his seven major-league games. Matos has added two steals, two RBI, 10 runs scored and a double over 29 plate appearances, and he doesn't look out of place, as he's walked six times and struck out only once. He's seized the starting job in center field, and he may get more stability in that role if Mike Yastrzemski's hamstring injury from Wednesday sends the veteran to the injured list.... See More ... Giants' Luis Matos: Possible waiver wire pickups
You can understand why Matos dropped out of the top prospect discussion last year. Hitting for average was supposed to be his best attribute, and well, he hit only .215. You can also understand why his return to form this year went overlooked. As of a week ago, he had only four home runs. But over the past week, he homered six times, bringing his season total to 10 and his overall stat line to something so ridiculous it would be malpractice not to call him up. In addition to the .350 batting average (.398 at Triple-A), he has struck out at just an 8 percent rate, a mark matched by just two big-league qualifiers: Luis Arraez and Keibert Ruiz. They're both slap hitters. Matos is not, having raised his 90th percentile EV by 4 mph from a year ago. He's a must-add in five-outfielder leagues, and his potential is something to entertain in three-outfielder leagues as well.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Luis Matos: Optioned out of camp
The Giants optioned Matos to minor-league camp Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The 21-year-old outfield prospect slashed .211/.275/.344 through 407 plate appearances with High-A Eugene last season and has already shown enough potential to warrant a spot on the Giants' 40-man roster. Matos went 6-for-24 at the plate this spring with a home run, and he will likely return to Eugene for the start of 2023 with a shot at reaching the Double-A level at some point.... See More ... Giants' Luis Matos: Rehabbing in Arizona
Matos (quadriceps) began a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Monday and has gone 3-for-7 with a home run, a double, a walk, four RBI and three runs in his first two games with the rookie-level affiliate. Matos has played center field in both of his appearances in the ACL, so his strained left quad doesn't seem to be bothering him on defense or at the plate. He'll likely be reinstated from High-A Eugene's 7-day injured list within the next few days.... See More ... See Less
