Granite was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Granite will provide additional outfield depth for the Rangers while Joey Gallo contends with what is considered to be a minor wrist injury. Prior to earning a promotion, Granite was hitting .291/.325/.362 with one homer and 12 stolen bases in 48 games for Triple-A Nashville. Kyle Bird was returned to Nashville in a corresponding roster move.

With Joey Gallo (groin) trending towards being ready for the start of the season, Granite will open the season in the minors. The 26-year-old outfielder is still in camp and provides insurance until the Rangers get a read on Joey Gallo (groin), who is expected to take at-bats in a minor-league game Friday. Granite plays plus defense and, assuming Gallo doesn't need a stint on the injured list. is expected to open the year at Triple-A Nashville.

Rangers' Zack Granite: Shipped to Rangers
Granite was acquired by the Rangers from the Twins on Sunday for minor-league pitcher Xavier Moore and cash, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Granite was designated for assignment when the Twins signed Marwin Gonzalez, and the Rangers opted to acquire him via trade rather than risk the waiver claim. The 26-year-old made his MLB debut in 2018 and slashed .237/.321/.290 in 107 plate appearances, and he should have an outside chance to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster with Texas.

Granite's removal from the 40-man roster opens up a spot for utility man Marwin Gonzalez, whose two-year contract with the Twins was officially announced. The 26-year-old Granite was never able to earn much of an extended look in a crowded Minnesota outfield, but his elite speed, solid defense and excellent plate discipline could prompt teams to put in a waiver claim.

Twins' Zack Granite: Returning from shoulder surgery
Granite started in center field and went 0-for-2 in Sunday's spring training loss to Boston. Granite had a placenta tissue injection to help repair a torn rotator cuff, which ended his 2018 season in July, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Granite appeared on the cusp of carving out a reserve or platoon role in the majors last spring but failed to make the 25-man roster. He then missed most of the Triple-A season with the shoulder injury. At age 26, he may have missed his window to win a regular major-league role with the Twins. He'll compete for a reserve spot this spring but will likely return to Triple-A to serve as organizational depth.

Twins' Zack Granite: Placed on minor-league DL
Granite was placed on the minor-league 7-day disabled list on Wednesday due to a right shoulder contusion, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Granite previously spent a few weeks on the disabled list due to the same injury near the end of April, and it wouldn't be surprising if he's been dealing with shoulder problems throughout the course of the 2018 campaign. Over 66 games with Triple-A Rochester, he's slashed just .212/.284/.246 with eight extra-base hits and four RBI.

Granite (shoulder) was activated from the minor-league disabled list Thursday, Brandon Warne of The Athletic Minnesota reports.
The outfield prospect had been out of action since April 21. Granite will now return to action, looking to improve the .495 OPS he has in eight games with Triple-A Rochester this season.

Twins' Zack Granite: Will start season at Triple-A
The Twins optioned Granite to Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Granite struggled at the plate this spring with a .122 batting average and .364 OPS in 41 at-bats. Non-roster invitee Ryan LaMarre earned a roster spot with a hot bat this spring and the signing of Logan Morrison in late February also diminished the 25-year-old's chances of cracking the Opening Day roster, as previously expected designated hitter Robbie Grossman is now slated for a role as more of a depth outfielder. A replication of Granite's slash line of .338/.392/.475 -- and 18 stolen bases in 284 at-bats -- for Rochester in 2017 would certainly help to earn him a promotion again this season.
