Chang cleared waivers Friday and was sent outright to Triple-A Worcester, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. Chang was designated for assignment Tuesday to clear room for Trevor Story, and he will remain with the Red Sox organization after going unclaimed. The 27-year-old infielder slashed just .162/.200/.352 across 112 plate appearances with Boston and is unlikely to make it back to the majors this season.... See More ... See Less

Red Sox's Yu Chang: Dropped from 40-man roster
The Red Sox designated Chang for assignment Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. Chang had been getting regular playing time at shortstop over the last handful of weeks, but he'll lose his place on both the 26- and 40-man rosters as Trevor Story (elbow) prepares to make his season debut Tuesday night against the Royals. Chang, 27, was sporting a .162/.200/.352 batting line through 112 plate appearances this season with Boston.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Yu Chang: Sitting in second straight
Chang is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals. Chang will sit for the second straight game in favor of Pablo Reyes, who drew a pair of walks in his start at shortstop in Sunday's 13-1 loss to the Blue Jays. It's unclear if Reyes has moved ahead of Chang on the depth chart, but neither player will be in store for a long-term stay in the starting lineup. The Red Sox are expected to get Trevor Story (elbow) back from the 60-day injured list Thursday, at which time he's expected to take over as the team's everyday shortstop.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Yu Chang: Gets Sunday off
Chang is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Pablo Reyes will get the nod at shortstop as Chang rests after going 3-for-16 with a solo home run while starting at the position in each of the last five games. Both Chang and Reyes will see their playing time in the infield take a major hit as soon as Thursday, when Trevor Story (elbow) is expected to be activated from the 60-day injured list and installed as Boston's everyday shortstop.... Red Sox's Yu Chang: Takes seat in series finale
Chang is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants. Pablo Reyes will step in at shortstop after Chang manned the position for each of the last 11 games while slashing .194/.242/.355. Both Chang and Reyes are expected to see more limited opportunities at shortstop in the near future, as Trevor Story (elbow) appears on track to return from the 60-day injured list at some point during the upcoming week.... Red Sox's Yu Chang: Swipes base in win
Chang went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a stolen base and was hit by a pitch in Sunday's 6-1 win over the Mets. The steal was just the second of the season for Chang, who continues to operate as Boston's everyday shortstop. His window of opportunity will last another couple of weeks, as Trevor Story (elbow) has just begun a rehab assignment that may reach the upper limits of the 20-day maximum. Chang is batting .219 (7-for-32) since he returned from the injured list July 7.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Yu Chang: Heads to bench
Chang will be on the bench for Saturday's game against the Cubs. Chang returned from hamate surgery just before the break and started two of the last three games of the first half. He opened the second half at shortstop but will head to the bench for the second game of the series. Enrique Hernandez starts at shortstop Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Yu Chang: Not in starting nine
Chang will sit Saturday against Oakland, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Chang returned from hamate surgery Friday to go 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a trio of strikeouts. He won't start back-to-back games immediately after returning from the 60-day injured list, so it will be Enrique Hernandez who gets the nod at shortstop Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Yu Chang: Drives in two runs
Chang went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Friday's win over Oakland. Chang was activated from the injured list and hit ninth in his first MLB appearance since April 24. The 27-year-old knocked a two-run single but also struck out three times. He's slashing .146/.180/.333 with 10 RBI and a 1:15 BB:K through 51 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Yu Chang: Activated from injured list
Chang was activated from the 60-day injured list Friday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Chang will make his return from hamate surgery after being sidelined since late April. He is expected to take over as the Red Sox' primary shortstop, at least until Trevor Story (elbow) is ready. Even with regular playing time, Chang isn't a very enticing fantasy option.... Red Sox's Yu Chang: Weekend return expected
Boston manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Chang (wrist) will be activated "this weekend," MLB.com reports. There had been speculation that Chang would be activated Thursday, but that didn't happen, When he is activated, the 27-year-old is expected to serve as the team's primary shortstop.... See More ... Red Sox's Yu Chang: Likely back this week
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Tuesday that Chang (wrist) is likely to be activated from the 60-day injured list later this week, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. Cora added that Chang will be the team's primary shortstop when he returns from late-April surgery to repair a fractured left hamate bone. The 27-year-old was slashing just .136/.174/.341 through 47 plate appearances prior to the injury and offers little fantasy appeal despite the opportunity for an elevated role.... See More ... Red Sox's Yu Chang: Nearing rehab games
Chang (wrist) could resume his minor-league rehab assignment later this week, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Chang was pulled out of action at Triple-A Worcester earlier this month due to renewed soreness in his surgically-repaired left wrist, but he's made significant progress in recent days. Sidelined since late April, he could be an option again on the Red Sox infield before the All-Star break.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Yu Chang: Moves to 60-day IL
Chang (wrist) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. He has not played since April 24, so the move to the 60-day IL doesn't necessarily affect his return date. However, Chang suffered a setback in his rehab a couple weeks ago and should be considered out indefinitely. Speedster David Hamilton was given his first call to the majors to provide infield depth.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Yu Chang: Suffers setback
The Red Sox won't activate Chang (wrist) from the 10-day injured list this week as anticipated after he experienced renewed soreness in his surgically repaired left hand, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports. Chang required surgery in late April to repair a fractured left hamate bone and experienced two setbacks while on a rehab assignment. The Red Sox are hopeful that he can get back into rehab games next week, but a timetable for his return now appears up in the air.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Yu Chang: Returning Monday
Chang (wrist) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Monday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. A hamate fracture in Chang's left wrist forced him onto the injured list in late April. He played one rehab game at Double-A in late June before a setback caused him to pause his assignment. Chang resumed playing with Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday and will likely get a few more at-bats in before returning Monday. The 27-year-old infielder was slashing .136/.174/.341 through 47 plate appearances before getting injured.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Yu Chang: Resumes rehab assignment
Chang (wrist/hand) resumed his rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Katie Morrison of The Springfield Republican reports. Chang was pulled from his rehab assignment near the end of May after experiencing pain in the same wrist/hand he underwent surgery on in late April. The infielder will likely need a week's worth of games -- if not more -- but he could be back as a utility option for Boston around the middle of June.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Yu Chang: To try hitting again Friday
Chang (wrist/hand) will try hitting again Friday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Chang required surgery in late April to repair a fractured left hamate bone and experienced pain in that same wrist/hand area last week while playing in his first minor-league rehab game at Double-A Portland. It sounds like it won't be a significant setback for the 27-year-old infielder, but nobody will know for sure until Chang ramps back up again.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Yu Chang: Rehab assignment paused
Chang's (wrist) rehab assignment has been paused after he experienced pain in his hand during his first rehab game, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Chang fractured his left hamate bone in late April and was expected to miss six weeks. His rehab assignment was delayed earlier in the week, and it seemingly should have been delayed a bit further, as he lasted just one game before suffering a setback. The issue doesn't seem to be a major one, however, so he could resume his rehab next week.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Yu Chang: Rehab delayed
Chang (wrist) could begin a rehab assignment this weekend. The Red Sox were hopeful Chang would kick off a rehab stint Wednesday, but the infielder experienced soreness after swinging the bat Monday.... See More ... See Less
