Lopez will not make Detroit's Opening Day roster, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Lopez is in camp with the Tigers on a minor-league deal, and he's collected five hits in only six at-bats in Grapefruit League action. Despite the impressive small-sample showing, Lopez is in line to start the season at Triple-A Toledo. The 29-year-old made his major-league debut last season with Boston, and he went 2-for-13.... Tigers' Jack Lopez: Goes deep Thursday
Lopez 1-for-1 with a solo home run in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees. Lopez joined the Tigers on a minor-league deal in February and is competing for a bench role. The 29-year-old made his MLB debut last season, going 2-for-13 in limited action with Boston. He's a career .241 hitter in the minors as well, so unless he shows more at the plate this spring, he probably won't see much playing time in 2022, even if he is able to secure a reserve spot in the majors.... Tigers' Jack Lopez: Signs minors deal with Detroit
Lopez agreed to a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Lopez reached the majors for the first time in his age-28 season last year, going 2-for-13 in limited action for the Red Sox. His ability to fill in at multiple spots around the diamond, including both middle infield spots and center field, could help him win a bench role, but he's unlikely to hit enough to earn significant playing time. He's a career .241/.295/.330 hitter in 893 minor-league games.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jack Lopez: Sent down Tuesday
Lopez was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. Lopez was called up Sept. 11 and he wound up going 0-for-2 with a pair of runs scored while making two appearances off the bench. He'll move back to Worcester for the time being with Christian Arroyo (illness) set to return from the COVID-19 injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jack Lopez: Recalled by Boston
Lopez was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Saturday. Lopez was sent to Worcester on Monday, but he'll rejoin the major-league club after Danny Santana (illness) was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Saturday. The 28-year-old has appeared in five major-league games this year, and he hit .167 with two doubles, a walk and five strikeouts.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Jack Lopez: Sent back to minors
The Red Sox optioned Lopez to Triple-A Worcester on Monday. Lopez had started at second base in each of the Red Sox's last five games, but he'll cede his spot in the lineup to Taylor Motter in Monday's contest against the Rays and his spot on the active roster to veteran infielder Jose Iglesias, whose signing with Boston became official. Boston is expected to get more reinforcements to the middle infield with Enrique Hernandez (illness) potentially returning from the COVID-19 injured list as soon as Tuesday, so Lopez likely won't be back with the big club at any point in 2021.... Evan Woodbery@evanwoodbery2D agoKenta Maeda is the first Japanese player on the Tigers since Hideo Nomo. "If that inspires other Japanese players to want to come to Detroit and play here, that's great," Harris said. "But it's not the reason why we signed Kenta. We signed him because he's really talented."

Evan Woodbery@evanwoodbery2D agoThe Tigers not only made the Kenta Maeda deal official on Tuesday, they publicly confirmed his salary. To my knowledge, the Braves are the only MLB organization currently doing this. If this is a trend, it's a good one.
