Frazier has been told he will not make the Rangers' Opening Day roster, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Frazier has posted decent numbers this spring and the Rangers are lacking outfield depth, but he still wasn't able to crack the roster. It's not a great sign for the former top prospect. He'll now head to Triple-A Round Rock if he doesn't opt out.... See More ... See Less

Rangers' Clint Frazier: Back to Clint
Frazier is using "Clint" as his first name this year after switching to Jackson (his middle name) in June of last year, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. Frazier was designated for assignment after playing just 19 games for the Cubs last year, and the name change failed to spur a rebound, as he hit just .190/.283/.302 in 66 games for Triple-A Iowa. Still just 28 years old, the former highly-touted prospect is in camp with the Rangers as a non-roster invitee this season. His track record in recent seasons suggests that a bench role is the best he can hope for, and even that looks like a long shot.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Jackson Frazier: Catches on with Texas
Frazier agreed Friday to a minor-league contract with the Rangers that includes an invitation to major-league spring training, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Frazier hit just .216/.356/.297 in his 45 major-league plate appearances in the 2022 season with the Cubs. The former top prospect will compete for a bench spot with the Rangers in the Cactus League.... See More ... See Less -
Jackson Frazier: Enters free agency
Frazier elected to become a free agent Oct. 6. Frazier accepted an outright assignment from the Cubs in mid-June, but he will now look to sign with another organization ahead of the 2023 season. He slashed .216/.356/.297 over 45 major-league plate appearances in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Clint Frazier: Remains with Cubs
Frazier accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports. Initially it was reported that he was mulling his options, but Frazier opted to remain with the Cubs, as there likely wasn't a team willing to give him a 40-man roster slot and pay the rest of his $1.5 million contract for this season. Frazier will likely put up impressive numbers at Iowa, but he is not a key part the Cubs' long-term plans.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Clint Frazier: Clears waivers, mulling options
Frazier cleared waivers Friday and has yet to decide whether he will accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Iowa or become a free agent, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. It sounds like Frazier's representatives will try to find another home for him, but he may head to Iowa if the pickings are slim. Once a top prospect with Cleveland and the Yankees, Frazier has been unable to recapture the form he showed from 2018 through 2020, when he slashed .267/.351/.485 with 20 home runs in 123 games. He's managed a .216/.356/.297 line in 45 plate appearances this year. Injuries have also played a part in his struggles.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Clint Frazier: DFA'd by Chicago
Frazier was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Friday, Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reports. Frazier missed more than a month due to appendicitis and appeared in nine games after rejoining the active roster in late May, and he went 5-for-16 with a double, five walks, an RBI and a run. Overall he's appeared in only 19 contests this season, and he's now lost his spot on Chicago's 40-man roster.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Clint Frazier: Draws another start
Frazier is starting at designated hitter and batting eighth in Saturday's game against the Cardinals. This will be Frazier's fifth start in the Cubs' last seven games, so he's starting to carve out a somewhat regular role. This has all come since the outfielder returned from a long layoff following an appendectomy. Frazier has played well since returning, slashing .400/.600/.500 across six games with five walks, a run scored and an RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Clint Frazier: Records first stolen base
Frazier went 2-for-2 with two walks, a double and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Brewers. He also stole a base. Frazier, who underwent an appendectomy in late April, is slowly starting to see more playing time following his return from the injured list Saturday, and Tuesday was the best he's looked all season. It was his first multi-hit effort of the year and the stolen base was also his first. Frazier has never stolen more than three bases in a season, so speed isn't a huge part of his game, but it's good to at least see the outfielder look healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Clint Frazier: Starting Game 2 on Monday
Frazier is starting in left field and batting seventh in the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Brewers. Frazier was activated from the injured list Saturday following an absence of a little more than a month due to an appendectomy, though he's yet to record an at-bat since returning. The outfielder has played in only 11 games this season, recording a .143/.250/.238 slash line with no home runs or RBI. He won't be on the fantasy radar unless he's able to secure regular playing time moving forward.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Clint Frazier: Activated from injured list
Frazier (appendectomy) was activated from the 10-day injured list Saturday, though he won't be in the lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox, Tim Stebbins of NBC Sports Chicago reports. Frazier has dealt with an unfair number of uncommon ailments throughout his career, and he hasn't been any luckier thus far this season. He wound up missing more than a month due to appendicitis but is ready to go after appearing in eight rehab games. He posted just a .525 OPS over that stretch and a .488 OPS in 10 major-league games prior to his absence, but he should still have the shot to carve out a role going forward, particularly against left-handers.... Cubs' Clint Frazier: Set for full rehab game in outfield
Frazier (appendectomy) is scheduled to play a full game in the outfield Tuesday for Triple-A Iowa, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Tuesday will mark the sixth game of Frazier's rehab assignment as he works his way back into playing shape following a three-week shutdown due to an appendectomy. Through his first five games with Iowa, Frazier has gone 3-for-17 with two doubles, two walks, three runs and an RBI. He'll likely fill a reserve role in the Chicago outfield once he's ready to return from the 10-day injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Clint Frazier: Starting rehab assignment
Frazier (appendectomy) will report to Triple-A Iowa to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Frazier spent the past week playing in rehab games at the Cubs' extended spring training, and he'll now progress to playing in minor-league contests. The 27-year-old expects to require five games with Iowa before potentially rejoining the big-league roster May 23 in Cincinnati.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Clint Frazier: Ramping up rehab work
Frazier (appendectomy) is heading to the Cubs' spring training facility in Arizona to play in rehab games, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. Frazier underwent an appendectomy April 22 and is moving closer to his return to the Cubs. It's unclear whether the 27-year-old will also be sent to a minor-league affiliate for a rehab assignment or if the action in Arizona will be enough for him to be activated from the injured list.... Cubs' Clint Frazier: Undergoes appendectomy
Frazier underwent a successful appendectomy Friday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. Frazier was placed on the injured list Friday, and it turns out he also went under the knife the same day. Frazier is reportedly "doing well" after the procedure, but he will presumably miss more than the minimum 10 days, and no timeline for his return has been established.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Clint Frazier: Officially placed on IL
Frazier (appendicitis) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Frazier hasn't seen much playing time early in the year, but he'll now be unavailable while dealing with appendicitis. Alfonso Rivas was recalled by the Cubs to provide depth while Frazier is sidelined.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Clint Frazier: Heading to injured list
Frazier will be placed on the 10-day injured list Friday due to appendicitis, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Frazier has started just five games this season, but he'll be forced to miss at least a week and a half due to his appendicitis. The 27-year-old has hit just .143 with two doubles and three runs this year, and it's not yet clear whether he'll spend more than the minimum of 10 days on the shelf.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Clint Frazier: Starting Sunday
Frazier is starting in left field and batting leadoff in Sunday's game against the Rockies. Frazier has been limited to serving as the designated hitter or making appearances as a pinch hitter and runner so far this season. He's gone 2-for-14 at the plate, and unless he starts to see more playing time, he won't have a ton of fantasy appeal except for in daily formats on days when he starts.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Clint Frazier: Won't start Opening Day
Frazier is out of the lineup for Thursday's Opening Day game against the Brewers. Frazier is getting a fresh start in Chicago after signing a one-year deal with the Cubs over the winter following a tumultuous, injury-laden run with the Yankees. Though he enjoyed a productive spring with a .785 OPS over 12 Cactus League games, Frazier looks like he'll have to settle for a role as the team's fourth or fifth outfielder to begin the regular season. Still just 27 years old, Frazier remains an intriguing talent, but he'll first need to stay healthy and wait for an opportunity to open up in the Chicago outfield before he warrants attention outside of NL-only leagues.... See More ... See Less -
Cubs' Clint Frazier: Off to good start
Frazier went 1-for-2 with a double in Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Athletics and is batting .375 overall this spring. It's a small sample size of just four games, but Frazier looks comfortable so far with his new team. The 27-year-old never really broke through like he was expected to with the Yankees, so maybe a change of scenery will be good for him, particularly if he can earn more playing time. Frazier will be vying for at-bats at DH and as a reserve outfielder for the Cubs, though he could expand his role if he produces in the early going.... See More ... See Less
