Red Sox's Chris Martin: Grabs second save
Martin picked up the save in Monday's 4-2 win over the Rangers. He allowed one hit while striking out two in a scoreless inning.
With Kenley Jansen on the COVID list, Martin was tasked with protecting a two-run lead in the ninth inning Monday. The right-hander worked around a one-out hit to earn his second save of the season, his first since June 11. While Martin is unlikely to see many save chances with Jansen due to return this week, the former has had an excellent year as a late-innings option for Boston while posting a 1.07 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP and 46:8 K:BB across 50.1 innings.

Red Sox's Chris Martin: Makes quick work for hold
Martin retired all three batters faced in the eighth inning of Friday's 5-3 win over Philadelphia.
Martin had a second consecutive clean outing, setting the Phillies down in order on five pitches to record his sixth hold. Kenley Jansen cleaned up in the ninth for the save. He's looked like an effective bridge to Jansen since his return from the injured list, throwing three scoreless innings over three appearances and recording holds in all three.

Red Sox's Chris Martin: Back from injured list
Martin (shoulder) was activated from the 15-day injured list Sunday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
Martin landed on the shelf with shoulder inflammation April 13, but he'll rejoin the Red Sox after one rehab outing with Triple-A Worcester. The 36-year-old has three holds with a 2.57 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 2:1 K:BB across seven innings this season, and he could be in the mix with John Schreiber for saves in the immediate future with Kenley Jansen unavailable Sunday and day-to-day with back tightness.

Red Sox's Chris Martin: Could be activated Sunday
Martin (shoulder) could be activated Sunday if he checks out OK after Friday's rehab outing, Christoper Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Boston manager Alex Cora described it as a "good chance" Martin will be available for the Red Sox this weekend. Martin threw an inning for Triple-A Worcester on Friday, allowing a pair of unearned runs and two hits. Presumably, the Red Sox will want to see how Martin responds Saturday before making a decision on activating him.

Red Sox's Chris Martin: Will be activated Sunday
Martin (shoulder) will come off the injured list before Sunday's game against the Guardians, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
Martin will take the place of Kaleb Ort with Ort already being optioned to Triple-A Worcester after Saturday's game. Martin was placed on the injured list on April 13 with inflammation in his right shoulder, and he should return to a high-leverage role in the later innings starting Sunday.

Red Sox's Chris Martin: Rehab appearance pushed back
Martin (shoulder) will make his rehab debut Friday instead of Thursday due to a stomach bug, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.
Martin was supposed to make an appearance for Triple-A Worcester on Thursday night but came down with a mild illness earlier this week, so the parties involved have opted to give him an extra day of rest and treatment. The veteran reliever still seems poised to return to Boston's bullpen early next week, possibly by Sunday. He's been on the IL since April 13 due to shoulder inflammation.

Martin (shoulder) is scheduled to make a rehab appearance with Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
Martin, who was placed on the 15-day injured list April 16 with right shoulder inflammation, is expected to require just one rehab appearance before rejoining the big club as soon as this weekend. Red Sox's Chris Martin: Could come off IL this weekend
Martin (shoulder) threw a bullpen before Monday's game against the Orioles and he could be activated off the injured list this weekend, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
Martin was placed on the injured list retroactive to April 13 with shoulder inflammation, and it appears the right-hander will come off the IL right around when he's eligible to be a part of the Red Sox bullpen. He'll likely operate in the middle innings once he's with the club.

Red Sox's Chris Martin: Added to injured list
The Red Sox placed Martin on the 15-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to April 13, with right shoulder inflammation.
Martin underwent an MRI before Sunday's game against the Angels and the imaging revealed the inflammation. Jake Faria is replacing the right-hander in the bullpen after having his contract selected from Triple-A Worcester. Martin will be out at least two weeks, but a more realistic timeline should be presented in the coming days.

Red Sox's Chris Martin: Undergoes MRI on arm
Martin underwent an MRI on his right arm and may be placed on the injured list before Sunday's game against the Angels, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
Smith reports that Martin's MRI occurred on the biceps and shoulder area. The Red Sox are currently dealing with several injuries to their pitching staff, so even if the imaging comes back clean there's a good chance that the right-hander heads to the injured list.

Red Sox's Chris Martin: Signs with Red Sox
Martin signed a two-year, $17.5 million deal with the Red Sox on Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Coming off a nice 2022 campaign that saw Martin record a 3.05 ERA and 0.98 WHIP through 56 frames, the 36-year-old reliever will provide a nice boost to a Boston bullpen that turned in the fifth-worst ERA (4.59) in the league last season. Martin will more than likely be turned to often in high-leverage situations, so long as his age doesn't begin to catch up with him.

Dodgers' Chris Martin: Collects second save
Martin recorded his second save of the season in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.
Craig Kimbrel and Evan Phillips had both worked two straight days coming into Tuesday, so Martin got the call in the matinee when the Dodgers took a late lead after a five-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning. The veteran right-hander has been scored upon only once in his last 14 appearances dating back to Aug. 15, posting a 1.32 ERA, 0.44 WHIP and dazzling 20:0 K:BB through 13.2 innings over that stretch while picking up a win, a hold and both his saves. With Blake Treinen (shoulder) and Brusdar Graterol (elbow) both potentially set to return before the end of the regular season, Martin could get squeezed out of any more high-leverage work despite his impressive recent efforts.
