Bogaerts (wrist) is starting at shortstop and batting cleanup in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Mariners. The 30-year-old was unavailable the past few days after he received a cortisone injection for soreness in his left wrist, but he's made a quick return to the lineup, as expected. It's apparently an issue Bogaerts often deals with during spring training, so there shouldn't be much concern for the upcoming campaign.... See More ... See Less

Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Gets cortisone shot in wrist
Bogaerts is wearing a splint on his left wrist after being given a cortisone shot to combat soreness, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The wrist issue is evidently something that usually bothers Bogaerts during spring training and isn't considered to be a big deal. The plan is for the shortstop to rest for two days before returning to play the final two Cactus League games ahead of Opening Day.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Back in camp
Bogaerts returned to Padres camp Wednesday, Sammy Levitt of 97.3 The Fan reports. Bogaerts played for the recently eliminated Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic, posting a .267/.353/.533 slash line with a home run and an RBI over four games in the tournament. He'll now likely return to playing in Cactus League contests as he continues preparing for the regular season. Bogaerts will begin what figures to be a lengthy tenure in San Diego after signing an 11-year, $280 million contract with the organization in the offseason.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: New deal announced
Bogaerts' signing of an 11-year, $280 million contract with the Padres was formally announced by the team Friday. News of Bogaerts' deal with the Padres came down late Wednesday, sending shockwaves through baseball. It's now officially been announced and the team will introduce him at a press conference later Friday. Bogaerts' power production was down in 2022 with just 15 home runs, but he still sported a healthy .307/.377/.456 batting line. He'll give San Diego another middle-of-the-order presence.... Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Gets $280 million from Friars
Bogaerts agreed Wednesday with the Padres on an 11-year, $280 million contract, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. The Padres came up short in their pursuits of Trea Turner and Aaron Judge but have now redirected that money into a megadeal for Bogaerts. It's much more than anyone projected that the infielder would get, but it seems president of baseball operations A.J. Preller wasn't going to allow himself to be outbid this time. Bogaerts figures to slot in at shortstop for San Diego in 2023, pushing Fernando Tatis Jr. to the outfield. It also provides future protection in the event that Manny Machado exercises the opt-out clause in his contract after the season. Bogaerts should be a fine fantasy asset again in 2023, especially if he's able to rediscover the power stroke that netted at least 23 home runs in 2018, 2019 and 2021.... See More ... See Less -
Xander Bogaerts: Opting out of deal
Bogaerts declined his $20 million player option for 2023 on Monday, opting out of the final three years of his contract with the Red Sox to become a free agent, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. As expected, Bogaerts will hit the open market this offseason, leaving approximately $60 million on the table as he pursues what will surely be a more lucrative long-term deal in free agency. The shortstop is coming off of another impressive campaign in 2022, having posted a .307 average with 15 home runs, 73 RBI, 84 runs and eight stolen bases over 150 games. One of the best shortstops in the league, Bogaerts will certainly have an active market for his services this offseason.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Grand slam in win
Bogaerts went 1-for-3 with a grand slam in Tuesday's victory over Tampa Bay. Bogaerts crushed a 1-0 curveball from reliever Colin Poche 421 feet to left field with the bases loaded in the fifth inning to extend Boston's lead to 5-0. The slam came shortly before the game was called due to rain. The power display was a promising sign as he had sat the previous two games with a back issue after going 2-for-24 in seven games leading up to his absence.... See More ... See Less -

The solo shot was Bogaerts' 14th on the season and second in the month of September. He has been hot at the dish, batting .436 (17-for-39) this month.... See More ... See Less -

The 29-year-old infielder has produced 12 multi-hit performances over his last 14 games, going 27-for-57 (.474) with 15 RBI during that stretch. Bogaerts has improved his season slash line to .318/.384/.473 with 50 extra-base hits.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Ready to go Friday
Bogaerts (back) is starting at shortstop and batting third Friday versus the Orioles, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. Bogaerts is back in the lineup after missing Wednesday's contest with the Rays while dealing with back spasms. The 29-year-old has produced 11 multi-hit efforts in his last 13 games, batting .462 with two homers, 13 RBI, 11 runs and a stolen base over 52 at-bats during that stretch.... See More ... See Less -
