  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Back in action as expected

Nimmo (ankle) will lead off and play center field Saturday against the Cardinals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Nimmo has been out for eight days with a low-grade sprain in both his right ankle and his right knee, but he's been trending in the right direction. Assuming he gets through Saturday's game without issues, he should be ready for Opening Day.

  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Plays minor-league game Thursday

Nimmo (ankle/knee) got five plate appearances Thursday in a minor-league game, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. He hit a triple and ran it out with no issues, per Healey. • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Eyeing return to lineup Saturday

Nimmo (ankle/knee) put in a full workout Tuesday and hopes to rejoin the Mets' Grapefruit League lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Nimmo has been nursing low-grade right ankle and knee sprains since last Friday, but his ability to take part in hitting, fielding and running work at Mets camp Tuesday bodes well for his availability for Opening Day. He'll likely continue to take part in baseball activities for the next three days with the aim of gaining clearance for the Mets' final two Grapefruit League games Saturday and Sunday. If Nimmo checks out fine coming out of those games, he should be ready to handle an everyday role in center field while serving as the Mets' leadoff man.

  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Tests ankle, knee Tuesday

Nimmo (ankle/knee) ran through drills without issue Tuesday in Mets camp, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Puma writes that "team officials liked what they saw and deem Nimmo as progressing," but it remains uncertain whether the 29-year-old outfielder is going to be fully ready for Opening Day. He was diagnosed Saturday with low-grade sprains in both his right ankle and right knee, the result of a collision at second base in a Grapefruit League game last Friday.

  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Chance to be ready for Opening Day

Nimmo (ankle/knee) told reporters Sunday that he believe he'll be ready for Opening Day, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. Nimmo said he was relieved to be diagnosed with sprains in his right knee and ankle, as it could have been worse. The outfielder jammed both while trying to break up a double play Friday in a Grapefruit League game, but imaging revealed no structural damage. The Mets won't take any risks in the early part of the season, but it does seem likely that Nimmo will be playing games in April for New York, even if he does open the season on the injured list.

  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Low grade sprain in ankle/knee

Mets general manager Billy Eppler announced Saturday that Nimmo has been diagnosed with a low grade sprain in his right knee and ankle, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. The good news is there's no structural damage according to the imaging. The bad news is that the outfielder has been diagnosed with the sprain, and will need to be evaluated on a week-to-week basis. The injury occurred when he jammed his knee/ankle into second base Friday while trying to break up a double play, putting Nimmo's status for Opening Day very much in doubt. Tommy Pham would step into the starting lineup should Nimmo begin the year on the IL.

  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Leaves with right ankle soreness

Nimmo left Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins with right ankle soreness and will be undergo imagine Saturday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. It looked like Nimmo had jammed his knee while sliding into second base, but the club is saying instead it's his ankle that caused his early exit. The Mets have dealt with significant injuries over the past few weeks, and the loss of Nimmo would be a massive one for both fantasy managers and New York for the coming season.

  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Leaves with apparent injury

Nimmo has left Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins with an apparent injury, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Nimmo appeared to jam his right knee while sliding into second base attempting to break up a double play, and he looked to be in serious pain before he limped off the field with an athletic trainer. The outfielder will go in for further testing, but losing Nimmo for any length of time would be a significant blow to the Mets' offense given his elite on-base skills at the top of the batting order.

  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Confirmed for spring debut

Nimmo is starting in center field and batting leadoff in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays. • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Not set for game action yet

Nimmo likely won't see action in Grapefruit League games until next weekend, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The 29-year-old center fielder is healthy to begin camp, but given his injury history, the Mets are taking a cautious approach with him. Nimmo returned to New York on an eight-year, $162 million contract over the winter and figures to slot back in at the top of the order -- a role that led to a career-high 102 runs in 2022 -- thanks to his .385 career OBP.

  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Returns to Mets for $162 million

Nimmo signed an eight-year, $162 million contract with the Mets on Thursday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. The Mets selected Nimmo 13th overall in the 2011 MLB Draft, and, barring a trade, this deal makes it extremely likely he'll play his entire career with the club. Nimmo has compiled a 134 wRC+ and .362 wOBA across seven big-league seasons, which highlight his on-base and contact skills. He's also a strong defensive center fielder and will be locked into the lineup at that position in 2023. The lone concern is Nimmo's injury history, as he's played in more than 100 games just twice in his major-league career.
