  • Royals' Zach Walters: Acquired by Royals

Walters was acquired by the Royals on Wednesday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

Walters came to the Royals from the Kansas City T-Bones of the Independent League. The 27-year-old spent some time with the Reds' Triple-A affiliate early in the season, but he was let go after slashing .174/.208/.239 in 48 plate appearances. The switch-hitter hasn't been assigned to a minor-league affiliate yet.

  • Zach Walters: Let go Monday

Walters was released Monday after being designated for assignment to make space for Brett Anderson a day prior, J.P Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group reports.

The 26-year-old utility man is now looking for work after struggling through limited time in the majors. Over the last two years, he batted 4-for-35 with 15 strikeouts in action for the Indians and Dodgers after hitting .277/.325/.469 over a seven-year minor league career.

  • Dodgers' Zach Walters: Designated for assignment

Walters was designated for assignment on Sunday.

Over his last 10 games at Triple-A Oklahoma City, Walters has gone just 6-for-32, bringing his batting average down to .276 for the season. Though he offers some positional versatility, Walters has struggled in his limited big-league opportunities, accruing a .176/.227/.382 line over 85 games. If he clears waivers, Walters will likely stick with the Dodgers organization and report back to Triple-A.

  • Dodgers' Zach Walters: Optioned to Oklahoma City

Walters was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Bill Plunkett of the Orange Country Register reports.

Walters appeared in three games for the Dodgers (one start) since his recent call-up, but failed to reach base in each of those opportunities. Thursday's lineup proved to be a bit of an ominous sign, as Yasiel Puig will get the day off, but it will be Andrew Toles, not Walters, who gets the start in right field. Rather than carry an extraneous outfielder, the team will call up lefty pitcher Grant Dayton.

  • Dodgers' Zach Walters: Gets recalled Saturday

Walters was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.

With Trayce Thompson (back) landing on the DL with lower back irritation, the Dodgers were in need of additional outfield depth and Walters got the call. The 26-year-old has slashed .298/.346/.491 through 77 games with the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate.

  • Dodgers' Zach Walters: Traded to Dodgers

Walters was acquired by the Dodgers on Sunday in exchange for cash considerations.

Walters, who will begin his tenure with the club in Triple-A Oklahoma City, will provide organizational depth at the infield positions. The Dodgers' infield is occupied by reliable veterans at the moment, and will become even more crowded once Howie Kendrick (calf) returns from the DL, so Walters doesn't necessarily have a clear path to the majors at this time.

  • Indians' Zach Walters: Designated for assignment

The Indians designated Walters for assignment on Sunday, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.

Walters' removal from the 40-man roster opens up a spot for Marlon Byrd, who is expected to share right field duties with Collin Cowgill or Rajai Davis until Lonnie Chisenhall (forearm) returns from the DL. While Walters once held some promise a power-hitting utility man, his extreme issues with making contact made it too difficulty for the Indians to justify keeping him on the roster.

  • Indians' Zach Walters: Optioned to Triple-A

Walters was officially optioned to Triple-A on Monday.

As expected, Walters will start the year after being considered somewhat of a longshot to make the Opening Day roster. The 26-year-old will attempt to work his way to the major league level at some point this season as he returns from shoulder surgery.

  • Indians' Zach Walters: Now 0-for-10 this spring

Walters (shoulder) went 0-for-1 on Sunday and is now 0-for-10 with five strikeouts this spring.

The 26-year-old underwent surgery in the offseason to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder. While he has not faced any restrictions this spring, it seems Walters is struggling a bit to regain his form in the early going. The Indians' outfield is wide open with Michael Brantley injured and Abraham Almonte suspended, but Walters is believed to be a long shot to break camp with the big club.

  • Indians' Zach Walters: Will work in outfield

Walters (shoulder) will work exclusively in the outfield in spring training, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Walters has been all over the field in his brief big league career, receiving a start in five different positions and as a DH, but it sounds as though manager Terry Francona would like the 26-year-old to have a bit more of a defined role. The switch-hitter had offseason surgery to repair a torn labrum, and though Francona indicated Walters would have no restrictions in the spring, it's unclear if he'll be ready for the start of the season.
