Robertson and Brooks Raley are viewed as the primary options for saves for the Mets while Edwin Diaz (knee) is sidelined, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports. Official word on Diaz won't be available until sometime after his MRI on Thursday, but the Mets are bracing for their star closer to be out for a significant period of time. Robertson would be a natural choice to slide into the ninth inning, having saved 20 games while posting a 2.40 ERA over 58 appearances for the Cubs and Phillies last season. He and Raley are both worthy of being selected in fantasy leagues -- pending news on Diaz -- with Robertson probably the favorite.... See More ... See Less

Mets' David Robertson: Bolsters Mets' bullpen
Robertson signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Mets on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Robertson missed the entirety of 2020 and the majority of the 2021 season due to Tommy John surgery. However, he returned to good health in 2022 with 63.2 innings and tallied 20 saves while splitting the season between the Cubs and Phillies. He won't be in line for save opportunities with the Mets barring an injury to Edwin Diaz, though Robertson will be a proven setup option in a bullpen that is otherwise lacking high-leverage relievers.... Phillies' David Robertson: Earns shaky save in Game 1
Robertson pitched a scoreless ninth inning and earned the save Friday night during Game 1 of the World Series, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out two in the 6-5 win over the Astros. Robertson received his first save opportunity of the postseason, and he nearly allowed the Astros to steal the win. After striking out leadoff man Yordan Alvarez, Robertson found himself with the tying run at third and the winning run at second. After three straight balls to Aledmys Diaz, the 37-year-old was able to work back and force a groundout to secure the 1-0 series lead. This was Robertson's 21st save of the season in his 29th opportunity. Despite some shakinesses in the postseason, Robertson has allowed just one run in 4.2 innings and remains a solid option out of the Philadelphia bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' David Robertson: Struggles in Game 2
Robertson (calf) recorded two outs during Wednesday's 8-5 loss to the Padres in Game 2 of the NLCS, allowing one run on three hits and zero walks. Robertson made his first appearance since Game 1 of the wild-card round, when he'd suffered a calf injury. The 37-year-old righty showed signs of rust, as he surrendered a long home run to Manny Machado to lead off the seventh and was only able to record two outs before being pulled by manager Rob Thomson. On a more positive note, Robertson has largely gotten a handle on the control issues that plagued him over the final 11.2 innings in the regular season, when he issued 11 walks -- he's yet to hand out a free pass to any of the eight batters he's faced thus far this postseason.... Phillies' David Robertson: Good to go
Robertson (calf) has made the Phillies' NLCS roster. Robertson strained his right calf while jumping in the air to celebrate a homer during the wild-card round. The injury was serious enough to keep him off the roster during the NLDS against Atlanta, but his teammates managed to win the series without him, buying him time to return. He'll give the Phillies another option to deploy in the late innings.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' David Robertson: Making progress
Robertson (calf) has been throwing and could return for the NLCS, should the Phillies advance, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Robertson missed out on the NLDS roster after straining his calf while celebrating a Bryce Harper homer in the wild-card round. The Phillies have managed to take a 2-1 lead in the series despite the absence of one of their best relief options, but they'll need to win one more game if Robertson is to have a chance to pitch again this season.... Phillies' David Robertson: Misses NLDS with calf injury
Robertson was left off the Phillies' roster for the National League Division Series matchup with Atlanta due to a strained right calf, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Robertson reportedly suffering the injury when jumping in the air to celebrate Bryce Harper's homer in Game 2 of the wild-card series against the Cardinals. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection, which could help him return for the NLCS, should the Phillies advance, but the team will be without one of its top bullpen weapons against Atlanta.... Phillies' David Robertson: Earns 20th save
Robertson picked up the save Tuesday in Miami, retiring the side in order in the ninth inning of a 2-1 win. Robertson made quick work of the heart of Miami's lineup, getting a flyout and two groundouts to end the game. It was his 20th save of the season and sixth since joining the Phillies. He's recorded saves in consecutive games but Philadelphia will likely continue to spread the save chances around its corps of relievers down the stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' David Robertson: Secures 19th save
Robertson struck out the side in a perfect inning to earn a save over the Phillies on Sunday. After blowing a save in his last outing, Robertson bounced back with a dominant performance Sunday. He lowered his season ERA to 2.38 with a 75:28 K:BB while converting 19 of his 26 save chances. Seranthony Dominguez (triceps) returned from the injured list Sunday and pitched the eighth inning.... Phillies' David Robertson: Another shaky outing
Robertson (4-3) blew the save and took the loss Thursday against the Marlins. He allowed two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out three over one inning. Robertson surrendered the go-ahead run on an RBI single from Brian Anderson with nobody out in the ninth after the tying run scored on a fielding error. The righty has struggled in his last seven appearances, blowing two saves in three opportunities and turning in a 1-3 record with a 6.14 ERA during that span. The 37-year-old is the top choice at closer while Seranthony Dominguez is on the 15-day IL (triceps).... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' David Robertson: Collects fourth win
Robertson (4-2) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up a hit and two walks while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning during a 3-2 victory over the Marlins. A caught stealing on Luke Williams helped Robertson escape a jam in the top of the ninth, and he then got the decision when Jean Segura slapped a walkoff single in the bottom of the frame. Robertson hasn't recorded a save since Aug. 24, but he sports a 2.51 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 18:8 K:BB through 14.1 innings since joining the Phillies at the trade deadline.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' David Robertson: Falters in non-save situation
Robertson (3-2) took the loss Sunday versus the Giants, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four in 1.2 innings. Robertson did his job in the eighth inning to keep the score tied at 3-3, but Wilmer Flores connected on a two-run walkoff home run in the ninth. This was just the second time in 12 appearances for Philadelphia that Robertson's allowed runs, and both of those instances have been two-run mishaps leading to losses. He's added four saves and three holds as part of the Phillies' closer committee. When accounting for his time with the Cubs to begin the year, he has a 2.35 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 68:25 K:BB through 53.2 innings while going 18-for-24 in save chances.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' David Robertson: Earns 24th save
Robertson picked up the save Wednesday against Cincinnati, allowing one walk while striking out one over one scoreless inning. Robertson has been great since being dealt to Philadelphia, sporting a 1.83 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over 9.2 innings in nine outings. The righty has allowed zero runs in eight of those nine outings and has recorded the save in four of his last five opportunities. The 37-year-old's only blemish in his time with the Phillies was a blown save against the Mets in which he allowed two runs in 0.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' David Robertson: Stumbles in loss
Robertson (3-1) allowed two runs on two hits while taking a loss against the Mets on Sunday. He struck out two and was charged with a blown save. It was announced that Robertson wouldn't be Philadelphia's lone closer while Seranthony Dominguez (triceps) is on the injured list, and he didn't improve his stock with Sunday's outing. The 37-year-old righty served up a two-run homer to Mark Canha and was charged with his sixth blown save of the year. Robertson's ERA jumped from 1.86 to 2.20 through 44 appearances on the year. It's worth noting that Brad Hand and Jose Alvarado each threw a scoreless inning Sunday while Connor Brogdon was tagged with three runs in the seventh frame.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' David Robertson: Not sole closing option
Robertson will not be the sole closer even after Seranthony Dominguez (triceps) was placed on the injured list Sunday, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Manager Rob Thomson told reporters that he would continue to mix and match the closer role and named Connor Brogdon, Brad Hand, Jose Alvarado and Andrew Bellatti as pitchers who could potentially see save opportunities. Robertson may get the first chance, as he recorded a two-inning save in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets. He's seemingly earned the opportunity, as he has turned in seven scoreless appearances -- spanning eight innings -- since joining the Phillies at the trade deadline.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' David Robertson: Two-inning save
Robertson walked two and allowed a hit while striking out two across two innings to earn the save in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets. Robertson entered the game to start the eighth inning and threw 36 pitches to record his 17th save of the season. Seranthony Dominguez (triceps) was unavailable, and if he remains sidelined, Robertson should see a much larger share of the save opportunities. Robertson has yet to surrender a run across eight innings since joining the Phillies at the trade deadline, picking up three saves and two holds with his new team.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' David Robertson: Notches 16th save
Robertson struck out one batter in a perfect inning and earned a save over the Mets on Friday. After Seranthony Dominguez tossed a scoreless ninth inning, Robertson finished off a 2-1 victory in the 10th. He's struck out five batters through four shutout innings since joining the Phillies, lowering his season ERA to 2.03 through 44.1 frames. For now, it appears that he and Dominguez will continue splitting save opportunities.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' David Robertson: Notches save in Phillies debut
Robertson struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his 15th save of the season, and his first as a Phillie, in a 3-1 win over Atlanta. Brought over from the Cubs at the trade deadline, Robertson was impressive in his Philadelphia debut, fanning Austin Riley and Eddie Rosario while knifing through the heart of Atlanta's batting order. Seranthony Dominguez and Brad Hand could still factor into the closing mix for the Phillies, but Robertson's 152 career saves and strong numbers this season could tip the scales in his favor.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' David Robertson: No lock to close
Robertson is far from a lock to secure a true closer role in Philadelphia, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. The Phillies have used a committee setup since removing Corey Knebel from the closer role in mid-June, and while Robertson has 151 career saves to his name (including 14 this season), he reportedly wasn't acquired with an eye toward a return to a traditional approach in the final frame. His 2.23 ERA and 30.9 percent strikeout rate would certainly make him a fine fit for the role should the Phillies choose to deploy him that way, though Seranthony Dominguez beats both of those marks (1.67 ERA, 31.5 percent strikeout rate) and has merely been a committee member, so Robertson may wind up being used in a similar fashion. Zolecki even suggests that it will be Dominguez and Brad Hand who remain at the head of the committee, with Robertson potentially no higher than third in line for saves.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' David Robertson: Returning to Philadelphia
The Cubs acquired Robertson from the Phillies on Tuesday in exchange for right-hander Ben Brown, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Robertson will rejoin the team he signed a two-year deal with back in 2019. He's had a couple rocky outings since the start of July -- including his last one -- but he saved 14 games for the Cubs and owns a 2.23 ERA and 1.04 WHIP on the season, so he's sure to provide a boost to the back end of the Phillies' bullpen. Seranthony Dominguez and Brad Hand are likely to move into setup roles to clear the way for Robertson to serve as the Phillies' primary option in save situations.... See More ... See Less

Kodai Senga 5. Carlos Carrasco They've discussed a six-man rotation out of the gate, but that doesn't seem likely.

Michael Baron@michaelgbaron11D agoNot that I want to get too far ahead here, but the #Mets could immediately turn to David Robertson or Adam Ottavino to close. What they do from there will depend on what's going on with Edwin Diaz's knee. A sad and very bad outcome to all of this for the player and the team.
