Antonio Bastardo: Suspended for second PED violation
Bastardo was suspended for 140 after testing positive for Stanozolol on Friday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic Pittsburgh reports.
The incident was Bastardo's second violation of the league's performance enhancing drug policy. The veteran lefty has been a free agent after failing to make the Diamondbacks this spring. He has a 4.01 ERA in 393 career major-league innings, a respectable enough number, though his ERA hasn't been below 4.50 since 2015. That combined with his suspension could make it tough for him to ever find another major-league job.

Antonio Bastardo: Cut loose by Arizona
Bastardo was released by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old inked an NRI deal with Arizona back in January, but it seems like the team didn't have a spot for him in the big-league bullpen despite his 3.18 ERA and 9:1 K:BB in seven appearances this spring. Bastardo has a lengthy big-league track record, so he very well could land with another team, especially after the strong spring showing.

Diamondbacks' Antonio Bastardo: Minors deal with D-backs
Bastardo signed a minor-league deal with the Diamondbacks that includes an invitation to spring training, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
He will receive $1.5 million if he makes the big-league team with $4 million worth of incentives if he earns the closer role at some point, although that seems highly unlikely. If he is not on the 25-man roster by March 25, the Diamondbacks must either put him on the roster or release him, if he so chooses. The 32-year-old lefty missed time in 2017 with a quadriceps injury and was eventually released by the Pirates after being designated for assignment. He would likely work in a low-leverage role if he makes the big-league bullpen out of camp.

Antonio Bastardo: Released after DFA
The Pirates released Bastardo after designating him for assignment Saturday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
The left-hander has allowed 15 earned runs in nine innings and has experienced a precipitous dropoff from his past years of success. Given his career 3.75 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 10.8 K/9 through 393 big-league innings, Bastardo seems likely to get another chance with a team in need of bullpen depth.

Pirates' Antonio Bastardo: Designated for assignment
Bastardo was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Saturday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Bastardo was recently reinstated from the DL with a quad strain, but allowed two earned runs in one inning against the Cubs on Friday. The left-hander has been having the worst season of his career, giving up 15 earned runs over nine innings. He was a solid option out of the bullpen two years ago, and could latch on with a contender if anyone if willing to take a chance on the 31-year-old. In a corresponding move, Phil Gosselin was recalled prior to Saturday's game.

Pirates' Antonio Bastardo: Activated from DL
Bastardo (quadriceps) was activated from the disabled list Tuesday.
Bastardo is finally healthy enough to rejoin the Pirates' bullpen after nearly a two-month stay on the disabled list. He held a 16.20 ERA and 5:7 K:BB in 6.2 innings of relief before landing on the DL, so he'll likely start out working lower-leverage innings. Jacob Stallings was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Bastardo (quadriceps) is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Bastardo has apparently progressed through his throwing program without any issues, so he'll head to Indianapolis. The Pirates haven't specified a length for Bastardo's rehab assignment, though they'll likely give the 31-year-old ample time to find his form given the 16.20 ERA and 3.30 WHIP he compiled with the big club across 6.2 innings before hitting the DL.

Pirates' Antonio Bastardo: Lands on DL
Bastardo was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday with a left quad strain, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
Bastardo was off to a brutal start to the season, allowing an earned run in each of his first six appearances (6.2 innings) to bring his ERA up to 16.20 for the season. Johnny Barbato was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace Bastardo on the roster in a corresponding move, and will likely head to the bullpen in his place. Bastardo gave up one run on three hits and a walk in two innings Monday, striking out a pair of Cincinnati batters.
He extended his streak to three games for surrendering an opponent home run, this time getting tagged by Scooter Gennett. Bastardo is likely living on borrowed time in the Pittsburgh bullpen. He's allowed six hits, three walks and five runs in 3.1 innings. The Pirates are paying half of his $6 million-plus salary, but his ineffectiveness could lead the team to release him without improvement.

Pirates' Antonio Bastardo: Suffers extra-inning loss Wednesday
Bastardo walked two batters, then gave up the game-winning homer to Boston's Sandy Leon in the 12th inning Wednesday. He recorded just a single out.
This was certainly not the start the veteran lefty was looking to get off to, especially considering that he's coming off a campaign that saw him set all the wrong sorts of career highs. Those struggles have seen Bastardo removed from a high-leverage role in the Pittsburgh bullpen, which will cut into his accumulation of holds -- his one real source of potential fantasy value.
