Hurricanes' Stelio Mattheos: Surfaces on waivers
Mattheos was placed on waivers by Carolina on Wednesday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Mattheos has yet to make his NHL debut and probably won't do so in 2022-23. The 2017 third-round pick tallied just 10 points through 59 AHL appearances last year.

Hurricanes' Stelio Mattheos: Re-signs with team
Mattheos signed a one-year, two-way deal with Carolina on Monday.
Mattheos -- who was selected by the Canes in the third round of the 2017 NHL Draft -- is still waiting to make his NHL debut. Since turning pro following the 2018-19 campaign, the 23-year-old blueliner has struggled to produce offensively, compiling a combined 21 points in 77 AHL games. Even if he does get into a game for Carolina, Mattheos is likely to spend the bulk of the year in the minors, making him a non-factor in fantasy contests.

Hurricanes' Stelio Mattheos: Back with team
Mattheos has been added to Carolina's training camp roster, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Mattheos was diagnosed with testicular cancer back in June. His addition to the Hurricanes' camp roster is an indication that the 20-year-old is nearing a return, but it remains to be seen what exactly the plan is for Mattheos moving forward. Nonetheless, this is very positive news for the young winger.

Hurricanes' Stelio Mattheos: Won't attend training camp
Mattheos will miss training camp as he completes treatments for testicular cancer.
Mattheos was diagnosed with testicular cancer just two days after helping AHL Charlotte win the Calder Cup in June. The 20-year-old has since undergone surgery and completed several rounds of chemotherapy, and is expected to return to full health after his treatment is complete. Once he receives medical clearance, Mattheos will likely join the Hurricanes' minor-league affiliate for the 2019-20 campaign.

Hurricanes' Stelio Mattheos: Signs entry-level deal
The Hurricanes inked Mattheos to a three-year, entry-level contract Thursday.
Mattheos has dominated the WHL ranks this season, ranking sixth in the league in points (96) and fourth in goals (44). With Brandon falling short of the playoffs, the 2017 third-round pick will likely move into the AHL ranks to close out the campaign.

Hurricanes' Stelio Mattheos: Playing well in WHL
Mattheos had a hat trick and chipped in an assist in WHL Brandon's 6-5 win over Saskatoon on Saturday.
With 26 goals (including 13 power-play tallies) and and 48 points through his first 31 games this season, Mattheos has quickly developed into one of the WHL's most dangerous players. A 2017 third-round selection of Carolina, Mattheos was drafted on the strength of his smarts and defensive play, so this offensive success is nice to see. Mattheos has a very high floor and it's not out of the realm of possibility that he will be ready to help the Hurricanes after just one season of apprenticeship at the AHL level.
