  • Michael Frolik: Released from tryout

Frolik was cut loose from his professional tryout with the Blues on Thursday. Frolik played in a mere eight games for the Habs last year in which he recorded 14 shots, nine hits and one block while averaging a mere 11:27 of ice time. At this point, the 33-year-old winger will likely have to play on a minor-league-only deal if he wants to continue his professional career in North America.

Frolik will be in the lineup Tuesday against the Oilers, Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette reports. Frolik enters the lineup for what will be his season debut. • Canadiens' Michael Frolik: Clears waivers

Frolik cleared waivers and was assigned to Montreal's taxi squad, Steve Whyno of the Associated Press reports. Frolik signed a one-year, $750,000 contract with the Canadiens on Wednesday. Frolik drew into 57 games split between the Flames and Sabres last year, picking up 14 points over that span. • Sabres' Michael Frolik: Poor production in Buffalo

With the Sabres being one of seven NHL teams that won't be part of the playoffs, Frolik has played his last game of 2019-20 and will soon become an unrestricted free agent, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports. Frolik was acquired by the team from the Flames at the trade deadline, and while the team's intent to boost the penalty kill made sense, he didn't really pan out in the sworded jersey. Lysowski feels he's one of the least likely UFAs to return to Buffalo based on his lousy production in 19 games with the team (just one empty-net goal and three assists). Frolik, 32 years of age, will be coming off a season where he produced just 14 points over 57 games between two teams, so his demand won't be all that high as he hits the open market. Perhaps the Sabres will be willing to keep Frolik if a really cheap offer does the trick.

He was brought in to provide secondary scoring for the Sabres, yet he's accumulated just four points through 18 games. He'll sit out while Dominik Kahun makes his Sabres debut.
