Dolphins' Cam Smith: Update on injury
Smith (hamstring) is still considered week-to-week after suffering a hamstring injury earlier in training camp, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Smith initially suffered the injury in late July with the expectation he'd return before the end of training camp. With a week-to-week prognosis and the Dolphins kicking off their 2024 campaign Sept. 8 against the Jaguars, the second-year pro may not return until official Week 1 prep begins.

Dolphins' Cam Smith: Won't miss all of training camp
Head coach Mike McDaniel said Tuesday that Smith (undisclosed) will not miss the entirety of training camp, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
Smith left with a trainer during practice Sunday and was absent from Monday's and Tuesday's sessions, per Adam Stites of USAToday.com. The nature of Smith's injury is unknown, but McDaniel didn't seem too concerned that the 2023 second-round pick would miss out on all of training camp or the preseason. Smith appeared in 15 regular-season games in his rookie year, finishing with two tackles (one solo) while playing 20 snaps on defense and 210 snaps on special teams.

Dolphins' Cam Smith: Adds weight in offseason
Smith has added 15 pounds during the offseason, Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post reports.
Smith put on weight to help him better endure a 17-game season, though he spent much of his rookie campaign on the sideline with just 20 defensive snaps over 15 games. The South Carolina product was a second-round draft pick in 2023, so the lack of opportunities was somewhat surprising. That said, Smith could see the field more often in Year 2 after Vic Fangio was replaced by Anthony Weaver as Miami's defensive coordinator.

Dolphins' Cam Smith: Exits with hamstring injury
Smith hurt his hamstring against the Jets in Week 15 and won't return to the contest.
Smith regularly plays on special teams, and that's likely how he was injured Sunday. The rookie cornerback hasn't logged a defensive snap in eight of his 11 games this season, so his absence shouldn't impact Miami's defensive gameplan.

Dolphins' Cam Smith: Cleared for contact
Smith (shoulder) has been cleared for contact in 11-on-11 drills during practice, Omar Kelly of Sports Illustrated reports.
Smith is competing for the cornerback role opposite Xavien Howard while Jalen Ramsey (knee) is sidelined for the next several months. He could also get a shot at serving as the third cornerback in nickel packages. The second-round pick has been sidelined recently with a shoulder injury, but his return to practice will allow him an opportunity to earn defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's trust.

Dolphins' Cam Smith: Could miss multiple weeks
Smith (shoulder) could miss two weeks, according to head coach Mike McDaniel, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
Smith's recovery timeline is ultimately in a "gray area," according to McDaniel, but he's not expected to be out long term. The South Carolina product was working to earn a starting job at cornerback, but with the recent addition of Eli Apple, coupled with this injury, he may have to begin the 2023 campaign in a reserve role, assuming he is fully recovered by Week 1.
