Top Jason Thompson News

  • Falcons' Jason Thompson: Scooped up by Falcons

Thompson signed a contract with Atlanta on Monday, Will McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.

The 25-year-old defensive back signed with New England as an undrafted free agent in 2017 to begin his career, and has made stops in Chicago, Seattle, Dallas and most recently Green Bay in two years since. Initially a college quarterback at Wyoming, Thompson transferred to Utah, where he developed into a backup safety and collected 21 tackles with one fumble recovery across three seasons. He has yet to suit up for a regular-season game and remains a longshot to make the Week 1 roster, but Thompson exhibited tremendous athletic upside during the 2017 pre-draft process. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound safety posted an impressive 6.57-second three cone time and a 4.45-second 40-yard dash at Utah's Pro Day.

  • Jason Thompson: Waived by Green Bay

Thompson was waived by the Packers on Monday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.

Thompson spent the final month of last season on Green Bay's practice squad and signed a reserve/future contract at the end of December. The 25-year-old is still looking to make his NFL debut after going undrafted out of Utah in 2017.

  • Titans' Jason Thompson: Signs with Titans

Thompson agreed to a contract with the Titans on Saturday, Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com reports.

Thompson was brought in along with former Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro to help fill the void left by starting strong safety Johnathan Cyprien, who was lost for the season with an ACL tear. An undrafted free agent in 2017, the Utah product was cut by the Patriots prior to the regular season, then worked on practice squads with the Bears and Seahawks throughout the season. Vaccaro figures to have the upper hand heading into competition, but Thompson will look to impress while in camp.

  • Jason Thompson: Cut by Cowboys

Thompson was released by the Cowboys on Friday, Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com reports.

The second-year safety has already been given a look by four different organizations in his career without suiting up for a regular-season game. Expect Thompson to latch on somewhere else fairly quickly given his athletic upside, even if he's unlikely to escape the practice squad in 2018.

  • Cowboys' Jason Thompson: Signs with Cowboys

Thompson signed with the Cowboys on Thursday, The Dallas Morning News reports.

He flashed elite-level athleticism at Utah's Pro Day last year, but a college career that saw Thompson bounce between positions and schools did little to help his skill development, and his brief pro career has followed a similar pattern -- after signing as an undrafted free agent with the Patriots, he was cut at the end of the preseason and spent time with the Seahawks' and Bears' practice squads in 2017. If he does crack the Cowboys' game-day roster at some point, expect him to be limited to special-teams duty.
