Shelton suffered a high-ankle sprain during Monday's 24-9 loss to the 49ers, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
Shelton stepped in as the team's starting center over the past three weeks, after fellow lineman Brian Allen underwent a knee procedure after the team's opener against Buffalo. The 299-pounder is now looking at a four- to six-week recovery period, but Allen has a solid chance to return and replace Shelton at center just in time for Sunday's matchup with the Cowboys.

Shelton stepped in as the Rams' starting center with Brian Allen (knee) inactive against San Francisco. With the fifth-year interior lineman now forced out in the first half, Jeremiah Kolone will take over in the middle of Los Angeles' offensive line, per David Lombardi of The Athletic.

It is unclear whether Shelton tested positive, or he was just a close contact. The 26-year-old is expected to be a primary backup along the interior of the Rams' offensive line, but he won't count toward the initial 53-man roster until he is activated.
