Kawann Short: Cleared for football activities
Short has been cleared for football activities after undergoing shoulder surgery last season, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The former Pro Bowler has already been in talks with a handful of teams and could land somewhere prior to the beginning of training camp. The 32-year-old Short recorded six tackles (three solo) in three games last season before suffering the shoulder injury.

Panthers' Kawann Short: Released by Carolina
The Panthers are releasing Short (shoulder) on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The 32-year-old defensive tackle had one season remaining on a five-year, $80.5 million contract, after playing just five games total between 2019 and 2020. He averaged 8.2 sacks and 17.3 QB hits per year from 2015 to 2017, but his stats declined in 2018 (3.5 sacks) and he then suffered season-ending shoulder injuries in back-to-back years. Short had surgery in 2019 on a partially torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder, and he's now rehabbing from October surgery to repair an unspecified issue in his right shoulder.

Panthers' Kawann Short: Heading to injured reserve
Head coach Matt Rhule said that Short (shoulder) will be placed on injured reserve Thursday, Myles Simmons of the Panthers' official site reports.
This transaction became inevitable once Rhule clarified Wednesday that Short would require season-ending surgery. Short earned two Pro Bowl nods over his first six years in the NFL, but given his latest setback, he will end up playing just five games between 2019 and 2020 combined. The 31-year-old missed 14 games last season due to a torn rotator cuff, and his 2020 campaign has been limited to just three appearances because of yet another shoulder injury.

Panthers' Kawann Short: Needs season-ending surgery
Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said Wednesday that Short (shoulder) will require season-ending surgery, Stacey Dales of NFL Network reports.
Rhule added that Short would be placed on injured reserve, though the Panthers may wait a few days to make the transaction official. Short finishes his season with six tackles in three games, marking another abbreviated campaign for the defensive tackle after he played just two games in 2019 before undergoing another shoulder surgery in 2019. According to Dales, Short's latest health setback is to the shoulder opposite from the one that required surgery last season.

Panthers' Kawann Short: Kept out of practice by shoulder
Short (shoulder) isn't practicing Wednesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Short has already missed two weeks with a foot issue this season, and now his status for Sunday's game against the Bears appears to be in jeopardy due to a shoulder injury that he picked up in last week's win over Atlanta. If Short can't go, Zach Kerr should return to a starting role on the interior of Carolina's defensive line.

Panthers' Kawann Short: Exits game against Falcons
Short (shoulder) exited Sunday's 23-16 win against the Falcons and was deemed out for the remainder of the contest, Myles Simmons of the Panthers' official site reports.
An injury-plagued campaign continues for the two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle, as Short was also forced to sit out Weeks 2 and 3 due to a foot issue. Unfortunately, the injury woes extend back into 2019 as well, as Short missed 14 games last year because of a shoulder injury. The eight-year NFL veteran had five tackles in his two appearances heading into Sunday, but he remains without a sack on the season so far.

Panthers' Kawann Short: Full practice participant
Short (foot) practiced without limitations Thursday, Myles Simmons of the Panthers' official site reports.
Short's status for Week 4 looks promising now that he's progressed from limited to full practice participation over the past two days. Injuries have been an issue for Short thus far in 2020, however, as he's already missed two games after sitting out all but two contests last year because of a partially torn rotator cuff. The two-time Pro Bowler now has a full practice session under his belt as he readies himself for an upcoming matchup against Arizona's seventh-ranked rush offense (149.7 yards per game).

Panthers' Kawann Short: Starts week with limited practice
Short (foot) was limited at practice Wednesday, Myles Simmons of the Panthers' official site reports, and Simmons adds that the team will evaluate how Short's foot responds Thursday to determine his potential availability for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
It sounds like Short at least has a chance to play Sunday after missing the past two games. The two-time Pro Bowler had four tackles against the Raiders when he last suited up back in Week 1.

Panthers' Kawann Short: Sitting out Week 3
Short (foot) is inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Chargers.
The two-time Pro Bowler was doubtful coming into the weekend, but now he's officially been ruled out. This development is discouraging news for a Panthers defense that has so far permitted an NFL-worst six rushing touchdowns to opposing running backs. That weakness may become especially glaring Week 3, as Carolina takes on a Chargers team that leads the NFL with 41.5 rush attempts per game. As Short sits, Zach Kerr will pick up his fifth start since the start of 2019.
