  • Chris Johnson: Doesn't make Rockets' roster

Johnson was let go by the Rockets on Friday, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Johnson seemingly couldn't impress the Houston brass enough to make the team. He last played in the NBA back in 2015-16, when he averaged 2.9 points per game.

  • Rockets' Chris Johnson: Heads to Houston for training camp

Johnson is expected to sign a partially guaranteed contract with the Rockets on Friday, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.

After spending his first four years in the league with five different organizations, Johnson was unable to find any suitors last season and spent the 2016-17 campaign in the G-League instead. While playing in 32 games with Rio Grande Valley, Johnson averaged 13.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.0 steal across 31.8 minutes. The fact that Johnson only received a partial guarantee means he'll have to battle for a roster spot throughout training camp. That said, the 27-year-old forward may eventually have to settle for another year in the G-League or overseas.

  • Chris Johnson: Waived by Jazz

The Jazz opted to waive Johnson on Saturday, David Locke of WeAreUtahJazz.com reports.

Johnson was buried on the depth chart throughout training camp, and never figured to have much of a shot at making the final roster. The 26-year-old will likely end up in the D-League, and look for another opportunity from there.

  • Jazz's Chris Johnson: Chances of making club appear slim

Johnson isn't expected to crack the Jazz's 15-man roster for the start of the regular season, Andy Larsen of KSL.com reports.

After second-round draft pick Joel Bolomboy was officially signed earlier this weekend, the Jazz now have 17 players under contract heading into training camp. Since the Jazz are particularly deep at the small forward spot after adding Joe Johnson to the ranks earlier this offseason, Chris Johnson, a minor role player last season, appears most at risk of missing out on a roster berth. Unless Johnson has an outstanding training camp, it's unlikely the Jazz will be anxious to clear room for him after he shot just 37.1 percent from the field across his 70 appearances in 2015-16.

  • Jazz's Chris Johnson: Finds spot at end of Utah bench

Johnson averaged just over 12 minutes on the court in 70 appearances for Utah during the 2015-16 season.

Johnson provided the Jazz with depth off the bench for much of the season while Gordon Hayward and Joe Ingles remaining relatively healthy for much of the year. At 25 years old, Johnson has already been deployed by five different NBA teams over his first four years in the league and could be in store for yet another destination next season as he heads into free agency this offseason. Regardless of where the former Dayton standout ends up, Johnson will likely assume a limited role yet again as an athletic small forward who struggles with shooting efficiency.

  • Jazz's Chris Johnson: Will start Wednesday

Johnson will draw the start Wednesday against the Warriors.

Rodney Hood will not play as he is nursing a sore back, which will result in a rare start for Johnson. In his only other start this season he posted 14 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and two steals in 31 minutes. He will likely battle Trey Burke and Joe Ingles for minutes. It is unclear how long Hood will be sidelined with his back injury, so Johnson could potentially draw a few more starts if he remains out.

  • Jazz's Chris Johnson: Plays 20 minutes Wednesday

Johnson managed two points (1-4 FG, 0-2 3Pt), three rebounds, two blocks, and one assist in 20 minutes during the Jazz's 104-94 loss to the Raptors on Wednesday.

Johnson has appeared in 51 games this season, with averages of 3.1 points, two rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.3 blocks in 13 minutes per contest. Part of the reason Johnson saw so many minutes on Wednesday could have been due to starter Rodney Hood (head) exiting the game. However, this was the 10th time that Johnson has earned 20 minutes or more this season.

  • Jazz's Chris Johnson: Scores four points in loss to Wizards

Johnson (toe) tallied four points (1-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, and two steals across 19 minutes in Thursday's 103-89 loss to the Wizards.

Johnson was unable to finish out the Jazz's final game before the All-Star break back on Feb. 10 against the Pelicans due to a sprained right toe, but the extensive time off afforded him enough recovery. The 25-year-old is averaging 3.3 points and 3.3 rebounds across 16.1 minutes in seven February appearances.

  • Jazz's Chris Johnson: Suffers sprained right big toe

Johnson suffered a sprained right big toe in Wednesday's game against New Orleans, Jody Genessy of the Deseret News reports.

Johnson limped out of the locker room and was taken for X-rays, which came back negative. As such, with the All-Star game coming up, it's possible he'll be ready to go for their upcoming contest next Thursday against the Wizards, but there is no timetable for his return.
