  • Nationals' Jesse Winker: Swipes two more bags

Winker went 1-for-1 with three walks, two runs scored and two stolen bases in Friday's 8-5 win over the Reds.

With his two steals Friday, Winker's up to 14 stolen bases on the year -- the 30-year-old outfielder hadn't recorded more than one stolen base in any of his previous seven campaigns. While Winker went just 2-for-16 in his six games prior to the All-Star break, he's had a strong bounce-back campaign overall in Washington, slashing .263/.38/.434 with 11 homers, 43 RBI and 49 runs scored.

Winker later laced a 403-foot solo shot off Freddy Peralta in the fifth inning to extend the Nats' lead to 4-2. The 30-year-old Winker has enjoyed a wonderful first half so far, hitting .260 with 11 homers, 12 steals, 47 runs scored and 43 RBI across 292 at-bats.

  • Nationals' Jesse Winker: Smacks go-ahead homer

Winker hit a solo home run in his only at-bat in Thursday's 1-0 win over the Mets.

He did not start with the lefty Jose Quintana pitching, but Winker provided the only spark of the contest when he took Adrian Houser deep in the eighth. It was Winker's 10th homer of the season, his fifth career pinch-hit blast and first pinch-hit homer since 2019 with the Reds. The 30-year-old will often sit against lefties, but he's been very good in his first year with the Nationals, slashing .263/.377/.425 with 39 RBI and 12 stolen bases.

Winker is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

Winker is poised to become the Nationals' primary designated hitter after the club designated Eddie Rosario for assignment and called up James Wood from Triple-A Rochester to play left field on an everyday basis. The lefty-hitting Winker will begin the four-game series with the Mets on the bench, however, with New York sending left-hander David Peterson to the mound.
