Corey Hart puts off knee surgery, to receive second opinion

Brewers first baseman Corey Hart had been scheduled to undergo knee surgery on Tuesday, but now he and the team have decided instead to receive a second opinion.

Brewers first baseman Corey Hart had been scheduled for knee surgery Tuesday -- surgery that would have caused him to miss the next three to four months. Instead, Hart has opted to receive a second opinion on the torn meniscus in his right knee. Dr. Richard Steadman of Vail, Colo., will evaluate Hart and render said second opinion.

Obviously, if Hart is able to avoid or put off the knife until next offseason, then this would be a boon to the Brewers' hopes for 2013.

Hart, 30, batted .270/.334/.507 last season with 30 home runs and 35 doubles. Hart's not only an accomplished hitter, but his absence also would force the disappointing Mat Gamel into the breach.
