Langford went 3-for-3 with a walk, double and run scored in Wednesday's 5-1 win over Seattle. The three-hit performance was the first of the season for Langford. The double was just his fourth extra-base hit over 88 at-bats (.318 slugging, .057 ISO), but the rookie outfielder is getting on base with consistency (.340 OBP, 10.2% walk rate). He's reached base safely in 19 of 23 games and is hitting .261 with a .658 OPS to open his MLB career.... See More ... See Less

Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Gets first day off
Langford is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics. The prized rookie will take a seat for the first time this season, ending a streak of 11 consecutive starts to begin his big-league career. Travis Jankowski will enter the lineup at designated hitter in place of Langford, who is hitting .261 with zero home runs, zero steals, six RBI and four runs across his first 51 big-league plate appearances.... Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Hit streak stopped
Langford started in left field went 0-for-4 in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Rays. Langford, who opened the season with a five-game hit streak, experienced his first hitless game as a major leaguer. The rookie is 6-for-25 with two walks, a triple, three RBI and a run scored to start his MLB career.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Logs first XBH
Langford started in left field and went 1-for-4 with a walk, a triple and two RBI in Sunday's 9-5 loss to the Cubs. Langford's fourth-inning triple was the first extra-base hit of his career and knocked in two runs to tie the game. This was also his first start in the field after appearing twice as the designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Serves as DH
Langford started at designated hitter and went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in Thursday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Cubs on Opening Day. Langford, a 2023 first-round selection out of Florida, forced his way onto the roster this spring, belting six home runs with 20 RBI and a 1.137 OPS during Cactus League play. The Rangers aren't giving him a roster spot to be a part-timer, so he should be the team's primary DH. Texas manager Bruce Bochy showed confidence in Langford, having the club's top prospect bat fifth in his MLB debut.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Added to roster ahead of debut
The Rangers selected Langford's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday. Manager Bruce Bochy announced last week that Langford had made the Opening Day roster, and now it's official. The Rangers have yet to reveal their lineup for their opener against the Cubs, but Langford will be in it. The top prospect put up a 1.137 OPS with six home runs during Cactus League action.... Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Could make Opening Day roster
Manager Chris Young said Saturday that Langford, who will start in left field in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Diamondbacks, has done "everything he can" to make the Rangers' roster, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Langford has been building a strong case for his spot on the Rangers' Opening Day roster. Entering Saturday, Langford leads spring training batters in slugging percentage (.806), is tied with Freddie Freeman for most RBI (14), and is tied with Thomas Saggese for fourth-best batting average (.361). While Young hasn't fully committed to Langford being on the team's roster on Opening Day, the 22-year-old prospect will almost certainly make the club out of spring training.... See More ... Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Will start Friday
Langford will start Friday's Cactus League opener, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. Texas manager Bruce Bochy said Langford is expected to get a lot of reps this spring, and it's widely believe last year's fourth-overall pick has a chance to crack the Opening Day roster. Presumably, the Rangers want the 22-year-old outfielder to get consistent playing time, so if Langford doesn't win a starting gig, he'd likely open at Triple-A Round Rock. Much of the Rangers' roster is set, but there is a hole at designated hitter. A situation where Langford and Evan Carter bounce between the outfield and DH is a possibility.... See More ... Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Attending big-league camp
The Rangers announced Wednesday that Langford received an invitation to major-league spring training, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. The 22-year-old quickly became the organization's top prospect after being selected fourth overall in July's 2023 First-Year Player Draft, and he rocketed his way through the minors to Triple-A by the end of the season. Langford posted an OPS above 1.000 at every level and clubbed 11 home runs in 44 games. He appears to have a real chance of earning a place on Texas' Opening Day roster in spring training, though the fact he has just 200 plate appearances as a professional under his belt could prompt the organization to keep him in the minors a bit longer, even with a strong showing in the Cactus League.... Rangers' Wyatt Langford: To be promoted again
Langford is expected to be promoted to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday, Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News reports. Langford has been fast-tracked since being selected fourth overall in the July draft. The 21-year-old spent three games with the Rangers' entry in the Arizona Complex League before going to High-A Hickory, where he slashed .333/.453/.644 with five home runs over 24 games. In early September, he was moved up to to Double-A Frisco, where once again his learning curve was minimal. In 12 games for the RoughRiders, Langford slashed .405/.519/.762 with four homers. In 39 total professional games, Langford has an OPS of 1.168 with 10 home runs, two triples, 14 doubles and more walks (30) than strikeouts (28).... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Wyatt Langford: Promoted to Double-A
Langford will be promoted from High-A Hickory to Double-A Frisco on Monday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Langford was selected by the Rangers with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, and he's earned a promotion following a relatively short stint with the High-A club. Over 23 games at Hickory, he slashed .329/.455/.610 with four homers, 19 runs, 13 RBI and seven steals.... See More ... See Less
