Wyatt Langford fell to the Rangers at No. 4 overall in the 2023 draft, but he could have gone 1-1 in that draft or any other to a team focused on getting a quick-to-the-majors impact bat. After slaughtering pro pitching to the tune of a .360/.480/.677 slash line with 10 home runs and 12 steals in 44 games while climbing from rookie ball to Triple-A, he now has a case as the top prospect in the game and as the top prospect to target for 2024 fantasy production. In a couple years, those elite prospects two and three years younger like Jackson Holliday and Jackson Chourio may be on Langford's level of impact, but right now he looks like a man among boys at the top of prospect lists. He posted a 117-mph exit velocity at Florida and regularly logged exit velocities north of 100 mph in pro ball. While Langford won't end up in center field, especially given the Rangers' other options, he is a plus runner who puts his speed to use on the bases and he walked more than he struck out in the SEC and in his pro debut. Given that Langford may be the favorite for AL Rookie of the Year, the Rangers are incentivized to give him a full year of service time, as it could net them a Prospect Promotion Incentive draft pick at the end of the first round in 2025.

The double was just his fourth extra-base hit over 88 at-bats (.318 slugging, .057 ISO), but the rookie outfielder is getting on base with consistency (.340 OBP, 10.2% walk rate). He's reached base safely in 19 of 23 games and is hitting .261 with a .658 OPS to open his MLB career.

Langford has been fast-tracked since being selected fourth overall in the July draft. The 21-year-old spent three games with the Rangers' entry in the Arizona Complex League before going to High-A Hickory, where he slashed .333/.453/.644 with five home runs over 24 games. In early September, he was moved up to to Double-A Frisco, where once again his learning curve was minimal. In 12 games for the RoughRiders, Langford slashed .405/.519/.762 with four homers.
